HAROLD DOUGLAS MACK 1919 - 2016 Harold passed away peacefully August 11, 2016 at the age of 97 and one half. Harold (Hal) was born January 31, 1919 in Neepawa, MB, the son of Dr. John and Ada Mack. Following the death of his mother and sister Isabelle, the family moved to Winnipeg. During the Second World War Hal served three years in the Canadian Armed Forces. In 1949, Hal married Frances (Frankie) Side. They resided in Saskatoon, SK for several years where their first daughter Phyllis was born. Returning to Winnipeg, they purchased a new home in Windsor Park where a second daughter, Maureen, joined the family. Hal had several different jobs over the years but the last and longest was with Manitoba Hydro. After Alzheimers claimed his wife, Hal moved to the Wellington where he spent some wonderful years. He alternated trips to see his daughters and got to share in the lives of his grandchildren and then great- grandchildren. Needing more care, he moved to St. Joseph's Residence in 2014. Music played a large role in Hal's life. Interesting that a man with so little hearing could play the piano by ear rather than reading music! He loved horses and was apt to pull out photos of his favourite horses that he owned as a young man. In 1966 he custom ordered a mustang convertible and that became his favourite "horse". Hal was eager to go anywhere with his daughters when he visited. He was slow in getting out the door but once out, he was happy to follow along with the group. Hal is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Saunders (Dave) of Sidney, B.C. and Maureen Shotton (Russ Weir) of Regina, SK; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three siblings. Predeceased by his sister Effie. Somewhere a rousing piano rendition of "You Are My Sunshine" is being played. Play on! Memorial service will be held in October.
