DOROTHY ISABEL BURZUIK (nee SUTHERLAND) April 23, 1925 - August 20, 2016 Mom passed away peacefully with her family by her side into the arms of Jesus. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Lenard) Panasky and Angela (Grant) Settee; sons, Ken, Dale (Marge) and Kim (Jackie); and her daughter-in-law Diana. She was so proud of her 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, especially Marie and Linda as well as her dear friend, Linda Rosser. She was predeceased by her husband Peter; son Terry; and grandson Shane. Also remembering her parents, William Colin and Rosabel Sutherland; her siblings, Lillian (John) Wasnie, Gertrude (Wilfred) Massey, Irene, Robert (Nellie) Sutherland, Walter Lorne (Helen) Sutherland and Maud (Jack) Massey; and numerous relatives and friends. Mom married our dad, Peter, on September 20, 1946 at St. Clement's Anglican Church. They lived in a little one bedroom house on #9 Highway close to Dad's parents, and built their home on Calder Road in 1960. Mom stayed home to raise her six children. Dad passed away August 6, 1972 leaving Mom with four children at home. Mom then went to work as a companion at Betel Home, studied and worked as a Health Care Aide until 1990 when she retired. She was involved in the Service Employee Union and travelled with her friend Anne Cyr to Nursing Homes around Manitoba. She volunteered at the Selkirk and District General Hospital and House of Economy. She was a member of the Army Navy & Air Force Ladies Auxiliary. She loved bowling with the Senior League as well. She so enjoyed her crocheting and knitting and loved to make crafts. She was in craft sales with her daughter Sharon for many years. She made scarves, mitts, socks, doilies and afghans which everyone loved. Mom also enjoyed making perogies, her famous bannock and perogy buns and fried bread that were gone in a flash. One of her greatest accomplishments was crocheting "The Lords Prayer" which took her over 20 years to complete. It is now framed and displayed in St. Clements Hall. Mom had a strong work ethic and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She loved to walk everywhere and enthusiastically participated in every charity walk. Mom was very committed to her faith, a lifelong member of St. Clements and St. Matthew's Anglican Churches. She was part of the choir, the Vestry and Altar Guild at St. Clements for many years. Mom was honoured with the Citizen of the Year Award in 2011 from the City of Selkirk. She enjoyed several trips to Grey Cup Games in Edmonton and Vancouver, Blues Jays game in Toronto and travelling to England and Scotland and many trips to visit family in BC and Bothell, Washington. The family would like to thank staff at Home Care, the Gordon Howard Vintage Club, and the the Selkirk Hospital. Our gratitude to Rev. Godfrey Mawejje and Rev. Ken Pawluk, and all who came to visit at the hospital. Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Clements Anglican Church, 1178 River Road, St. Andrews, MB. Donations can be made to St. Clements Anglican Church Memorial Fund or St. Matthew's Anglican Church Memorial Fund.

  • To my family There are so many words to say about Aunty Dod's. I would get so excited when I knew we were going to Selkirk because I got to see Aunty. She was always smiling and had lots of love. When Aunty and Her sister Gertrude, my grandma would come to Ron and Ruby's. Their presence made my life joyful. Even if it was a short visit. I would enjoy ever minute I had with her. She always made me laugh. Aunty always made bannock and my most favourite dessert vina tarta (Sure hope one of you can make it lol I could smell the bannock as I came home from school. I'm so sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers. - Posted by: Cindy Renaud (Great niece ) on: Aug 24, 2016
