IRENE HERITAGE 1927 - 2016 Irene Heritage was granted her angel wings on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn, MB. Irene was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England on October 22, 1927 to Robert and Lily Howard. She learned from a young age that a strong work ethic, kindness and a deep faith in God would serve her well on her life's journey. Her first full-time job was at age 12 at the local candy factory. She then went on to complete her nurse's training and attended midwifery training in London. Armed with her new skills, she served three years in post-war Korea. On completion of the mission, she saw a job opportunity in the World Nursing Journal. This led her to work at the Elkhorn Hospital. In Elkhorn, she married Ron Heritage and together they raised four girls: Elizabeth, Carol, Pat and Janice. Mom moved to Winnipeg in the 1980s and worked as live-in-home care provider. She enjoyed living in the city. Her favourite places included the Winnipeg Library, Assiniboine Park and Holy Trinity Church. She enjoyed reading, crosswords, playing scrabble and volunteering at Holy Trinity. Irene is survived by Janice (Gene), Carol (Rick), Pat and her grandchildren; Krystan, Sarah, Cole, Hailey and Karlee. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth in 2014. A graveside service presided by Reverend Kareen Snowden at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
