JOSEPH RYAN On Tuesday August 23, 2016, peacefully and in the presence of his family, our father and Grampa Joe left this world to be with his Lord and Saviour and all the others that passed before him. He struggled with dementia and a failing body in his last year but now he is without pain and has a clear mind. We are thankful for the gift that he was to us and to know that we will see him again. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Left to cherish his memory are his son Jason and wife Charlene; his grandsons, Aaron and Joshua. He is also survived by his sister Joan Rosby (of Salmon Arm, BC); and brother Ken Ryan (of Toronto, Ontario). Also his loving mother-in-law Anne Kotak (of Grandview, MB); his sisters-in-law Delores Puchailo (of Grandview, MB) and Linda (and Jim) Anderson (of Pelly, SK) and niece Lisa and nephew Charlie. He is predeceased by his wonderful wife Sylvia (2011). Joe was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on May 3, 1934. He had many wonderful memories of hitch hiking across Canada as a teenager. He moved to Winnipeg where he worked and met his wife Sylvia. Joe and Sylvia spent many years volunteering at different nursing homes and organizations. He loved to camp and spend time fishing with Syl and his family. He will mostly be remembered by all, as a man who took the time to joke and kibitz with all and the kindness that he showed to others. We wish to express our thanks to the staff of River East Personal Care Home and Concordia Hospital, who showed such love and care to Joe during his last years, as a family we are very proud of our medical caregivers, and the many who openly shared dad's faith and prayed often with/for him. As per Joe's wishes, there will be no service held. We ask that you all remember Joe in your own special way. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Winnipeg Harvest, in lieu of flowers. God has said, "Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you." And that was evident in Joe's final hours! (Hebrews 13:5b)

  • A lifetime of great, warm memories of a brother -in-law and friend who was there in time of need and assisstance. At garden harvest or crirical illness, Joe did not hesitate to help and support in any capacity - his compassion and care was ever- present.
