SHERMAN LEE FRASER With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Sherman Lee Fraser, aged 67, on August 27, 2016. Sherman is survived by his beloved wife Judy, daughter Lisa, daughter Dana, son-in-law Nicholas and his dearly loved grandchildren Carter and Chelsea. Also survived by sister Gail Guy and husband John, nephew Jason Guy, niece Patricia Furman, husband Scott and their children Andrew, Patrick and Abby. Sherman was predeceased by his parents Carter and Lenore Fraser. He was also very close to three big, supportive families - the Fraser clan of Transcona, the Setter family of Russell and the Weik family of Arborg. Sherman was born July 28, 1949 in Transcona. He was always a happy, loving child who spent his life enjoying the outdoors, often with the Fraser cousins at the lake in Redditt, Ontario. Many stories about Redditt remain untold but left lasting memories of wonderful bonds between cousins particularly Greg Fraser who was like a brother to him. Summers were also spent with the Setter side of the family at the farm in Russell where strong relationships were formed that remain to this day. Due to the early death of his father at the age of 19, Sherman became independent and self-sufficient putting himself through university and joining the provincial government in 1972. Throughout his career he worked with various branches of the department of fisheries which took him all over the province particularly in the Interlake and the North. He worked there until his retirement in 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with his fellow "Fish Heads". Upon meeting and marrying "Jude" and with the arrival of his two daughters, his world became whole. His life revolved around his family - sports, family holidays and frequent trips to Arborg to be with Judy's extended family who meant so much to Sherman. He was a quiet soul with a big laugh. All kids adored Sherman as he was always willing to give horseback rides or toss you into the lake. The marriage of Dana and the arrival of grandchildren added so much happiness to Sherman's world - kids to play with, fish with, and babysit. Sherman was immensely proud of Judy's work accomplishments and of the two fine, accomplished, talented women that his two daughters became. And despite concerns with respect to Judy's health, Sherman was truly a happy man, content in the world he had created with those he loved the most. The Fraser family is a family of faith, and despite the unexpectedness of Sherman's passing, we will pull together, confident that he knew he was loved and will be missed. We know he's gone fishin' in Heaven. The family wishes to thank and acknowledge the help and support of Greg Fraser, Sherman's sister Gail and husband John, Judy's sister Donna and husband Leslie, the Quiring Bay gang, Pastor Brad and the Peace Lutheran Church family, and many other friends and relatives. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 350 Gilmore Avenue, Winnipeg. All are invited to a reception following the service at Holy Eucharist Parish Centre, 460 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 350 Gilmore Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2G 2B7.
