GEETY (GRACE GLORIA) SOUDACK Geety Soudack passed away on August 25, 2016 in Netanyah, Israel, following a long deterioration in her health. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1927, the youngest of the three children of David and Anna Akst. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1944 and attended Brooklyn College. In 1945 she met and fell in love with Moish Soudack, a Canadian army officer on leave in NYC. They married in 1947 and lived together happily until his death in 2008. They were a marvellous couple, lifelong partners who created a family and household built on love and respect, dignity and laughter. Geety and Moish moved to Israel in 1949 and helped establish Kibbutz Gesher Haziv. In 1958 they moved to North End Winnipeg, raised their two children, Avi and Michalle, and actively participated in the Jewish community. Geety received her B. Ed. and M. Ed. degrees from University of Manitoba, and taught at the Talmud Torah Jewish School and later at the Winnipeg School Division. A natural teacher, she taught elementary and special education and was loved by her students and respected by her colleagues. After retiring, she and Moish returned to Israel to fulfill their lifelong zionist dream and to be close to Michalle, her husband Alon and their boys Nitzan, Guy and Noam. During retirement they travelled extensively in Europe, Asia and the Americas and spent part of each year in Toronto to be close to Avi, his wife Meredith and their son Ridley. Geety loved to read, travel, and listen to music. She was an excellent cook who kept a warm and welcoming home and loved being with her extended Akst and Soudack families. Her gentle nature and genuine interest in others put people at ease and over the years she supported, consoled and encouraged countless friends and family members. Her warmth, vitality, and kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Geety and Moish are buried in Avihayil, Israel. Donations in her honour to the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada. ldac-acta.ca
