FLORENCE JANE IVES (nee DESROCHERS) November 28, 1928 - August 30, 2016 Florence passed away peacefully in her home. Florence is survived by her sons, Wayne (Marnie) and Randy (Sharene); daughter Sandra; grandchildren, Stephanie (Spencer), Lyndsi (Sylvain) and Cody; sister Lillian Farrington; sister-in-law Patsy Lawrence, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Archie and Jean; husband Victor; sisters-in-law, Vera Watts, Margaret Merry and Irene Shaver (George); and brothers-in-law, Gordon, Gilbert, Harold, Clifford (Corrine) and Raymond. Florence was born in Winnipeg and grew up in St. Boniface. She met Victor in 1947, and they married in June of 1951. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the Legion and was proud every time she won a ham. Family was important to Florence and she enjoyed trips to South Beach and playing Rummoli with her children and grandchildren. Florence loved hosting Christmas Eve for many years, and her family always looked forward to her mac attack, meatballs, pineapple cake, fork cake, marshmallow squares and cheesecake. Florence loved dogs and had a special place in her heart for her buddy Silver. She would often give him Arrowroot cookies as a treat, especially when she babysat him. Florence was a member of the Fort Rouge Legion No. 97. She served many posts including president of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She received several Certificates of Merit and a Lifetime Membership for her dedicated work and support of the veterans. At Florence's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Flowers are gratefully declined; donations may be made in Florence's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society. A poem for Grammie: "Grammie you're gone, and we feel like crap. But we know that you're smiling, with Silver's head in your lap. Our hearts are not happy that we must say goodbye, but we know that it's off to Heaven you fly. It's time to see Grandpa, and he's waiting for you. And he brought you your friend, who wants his Arrowroot. We'll miss all your baking, like cheesecake and more. We'll make it our best, but it's not as good as yours. The kindest person ever, but with cards there's no laughs. Unless you're cleaning the house, with your money in stacks. Whenever we would visit, you'd bring us a treat. Even if we weren't hungry, we would still have to eat. You're looking down on us now, saying stop with the tears. So we'll raise up a glass, and toast you a cheers. Yes we'll miss your warm smile, and sweet gentle touch. We just want you to know Grammie, we love you so much!!!!!" www.voyagefuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I smile when I think of Mrs. Ives. She and Vic were great friends with my Mom and Dad (Frank and Irene). I can attest to her love for playing Bingo at the legion because I was often time called upon to babysit while she went. If she came home later than she planned I'd know she won the big "pot". Her laughter was constant and contagious. She and my Mom would often be seen talking for hours in the back lane of Glasgow Avenue. I remember the first time she made and brought pizza to our house. We all thought she'd gone crazy bringing rolled out bread dough covered in sauce, meat and cheese but it was absolutely delicious and that was the start of our pizza love. With fond memories I offer my sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Jackie (Bain) Wilkes (Family Friend) on: Sep 05, 2016

  • My condolences to your family. Auntie Florence was my godmother. She took me to the Shrine Circus one year and gave me a beautiful pearl necklace for my graduation. I still wear them. She had the greatest laugh. I always enjoyed visiting with my Auntie Florence. I hope your family will be comforted by the many happy memories you made. - Posted by: Peggy Haire (Niece) on: Sep 03, 2016
