DENNIS CROOK Peacefully on August 31, 2016 Dennis G. Crook passed away at Vista Park Lodge. Dennis leaves to mourn his wife Ruth, son Glenn, daughter Allayne Porco and son-in-law Ken, grandchildren Jennifer (Dave) Beauchamp, Kevin (Leigh) Crook, Amanda Konrad (Scott Parker), Linden Porco, and sister-in-law Joan Crook and family. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Millie Crook, sister Dulcie, twin brother Wesley, and son Douglas. In his early years he was a Flight Lieutenant of the St. James Air Cadet Squadron. From the start he didn't let his lack of vision in one eye stop him. He wanted to be a pilot, but they put a stop to that one. Dennis and Ruth were married September 6, 1952, and would have celebrated 64 years together this year. They had a strong bond. Their love and dedication to each other was evident. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Lac du Bonnet to take over the Springfield Leader, the newspaper and print company for north eastern Manitoba. Dennis was always getting involved in activities. Now that they were living on the Winnipeg River, he needed a boat - so of course, being a handyman, he built one. Then he started the water ski club in Lac du Bonnet, became a member of the Lions Club, a volunteer firefighter and President of the Memorial Community Club. After 15 years they moved back to Winnipeg, where Dennis continued to work in the printing business, and worked at the Queen's Printer (Province of Manitoba) until his retirement in 1989. Dennis was a hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed many fishing trips and was a provincial host guide for writers and editors of outdoor magazines from the US to experience the bountiful lakes in Northern Manitoba. Dennis played an instrumental role in the formation of the Master Angler fishing award program. He was always happy when he had a fishing trip to go on, even if he went alone. He also volunteered for the Manitoba Rifle Association, and the 1991 World Curling Championship. Dennis and Ruth enjoyed golfing and were members at Breezy Bend, and then Steinbach when they lived out at Paradise Village. They enjoyed travelling to Phoenix, and taking numerous cruises including Tahiti, Mexican Riviera, and Alaska, to name a few. Dennis was always positive and despite his many health issues, never complained. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and hearing about all the activities of his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humour, often sharing side bar jokes with whomever was lucky enough to sit beside him. We would like to thank Manitoba Health for their prompt assistance for Dad's placement on an urgent basis in October 2015. Our sincerest appreciation goes out to the staff at Parkview Place and Vista Park Lodge, and Coutu Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Winnipeg Chapter - Crohns and Colitis of Canada. A private memorial service will be held with the family. Grandfather Although you can't be here with us, we're truly not apart, until the final breath we take, you'll be living in our hearts.

My parents met Dennis & Ruth on a Alaskan Cruise and several years later I married a Canadian who was living in Winnipeg so a true blessing. We met when my parents visited and a friendship rekindled. Even on a Grandparents day, My folks couldn't be there so Dennis & Ruth went to be with our Alexander at his preschool. We moved from Winnipeg to Phoenix, yet once again they came and helped us with keeping our boys entertained in the packing up days on Kingston Row. The miles separated us, but not the memories. Our thoughts, prayers are with you Ruth and family Doug, Michele, Alexander, Andrew, Zachary Kerfoot - Posted by: Michele Kerfoot (Family Friend) on: Sep 10, 2016

When I was 16 yrs.old I worked at Mr. Crook"s paper in Lac du Bonnet- The Springfield Leader- as a reporter. He was an excellent boss and I learned so much from him. He gave me my own column and a free hand to report on current affairs in the town and surrounding areas such as Pinawa and Pine Falls. It was because of that opportunity that I studied in Honours English at the University of Manitoba. He was a very positive influence in my life and a mentor to me. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. - Posted by: Judy Malloy (Friend) on: Sep 03, 2016
