Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDELTRAUT (EDIE) HAHLWEG May 5, 1942 - August 26, 2016 On Friday, August 26, 2016 Edie Hahlweg peacefully passed away at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 74 years. Left to mourn Edie's passing are her sister, Emma (Frank) Dranez and family; sons, Ron (Cheryl), Gord (Paula) and Ken (Lynne); grandchildren, Alexandria, Matthew, Sarah, Ethan, Louis, Satya, Camille and Jakob; as well as extended family, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents Gertrude and Erich Wienhold, and sister Christel. On May 5, 1942 Edie was born in Schoeneberg, Germany. She immigrated to Canada at the age of nine with her mother and sister. Edie went to high school at Tec-Voc, but didn't graduate until many years later when she got her grade 12 GED in 1975. She was very proud of this achievement and it kick-started her lifelong path of learning and entrepreneurial adventures. Edie was a hairdresser by trade. She worked out of the home while raising her sons, then in hair salons, and again out of her home in Letellier, Manitoba until her first stroke in 2003. In the 1970s, Edie, as manager of Regis Hairstyling, Garden City, earned several President's Awards giving her the opportunity to enjoy many overseas vacations. In her desire to continually grow as a person, Edie was involved in numerous business ventures including home-based sales, real estate and as owner and operator of Scrimper's Cove, a second hand clothing store in Osborne Village. She was an avid reader and was forever exploring how the mind could be used to a greater potential. In this pursuit Edie went to Texas to become an instructor in the Silva Method and held seminars in Winnipeg to teach others. Through all her efforts in life, Edie became a mentor and role model to many. She was a wonderful gardener and created a beautiful flower garden with Miroslav George Mulko at their home near Letellier, enjoying 18 happy years together. In 2013 she moved into an apartment at Lion's Place in Winnipeg. Her lasting legacy will be the example she set with her passion for learning and the resilience she demonstrated in facing life's many challenges. We will all miss her deeply. A Memorial Service will be held for Edie on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the Abundant Life Lutheran Church, 3486 Raleigh Street, East St. Paul, Manitoba (one half km north of Hoddinott Road). Special thanks to the Grace Hospital staff for the care they provided and to all the W.R.H.A. Homecare staff that got to know and helped to support Edie in her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Suite 200, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6. To all the Hahlweg family Edie was one of my dearest friends for all our early years in life. We shared the birth of our children many summers at the lake when they were young and we were young. Enjoyed lots of babies being born, birthdays, anniversaries and many fun times together. I moved to Calgary in 1981 but we did keep in touch and saw each other when ever I came to Winnipeg. When Edie moved to Letellier we saw each other very rarely but I did enjoy a visit from her and Miroslav in Calgary. Hearing about her stroke was so very heart wrenching. My friend informed me about Edie's passing and my prayers go out to all the family. Wishing you all the blessing of wonderful memories of times gone by Edie was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren whenever we did speak she boasted about their achievements. When I went to visit her at Lions Place while in Winnipeg it was hard to see how she had gotten weaker and life was harder for her on a daily basis. We did have a nice visit and shared good memories of good times in the past. God Bless all of you my sincerest wishes Heidi Daumler - Posted by: Heidi Daumler (old friend) on: Sep 04, 2016
