JOHN PETER MALONE
Date of Passing: Sep 12, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN PETER MALONE It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, husband and friend, John Malone on Monday, September 12, 2016, at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 81 years. Left to cherish John's memory are his loving wife, Ingrid of 60 years of marriage; children Peggy (Tom), Iris (Rod, deceased) and Terence (Margaret); three grandchildren, Nolan (Kat), Miles and Jennifer (Matthew); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In Berlin, Germany, John was born to Georg and Charlotte Möller on April 14, 1935 with the given name Hans-Dieter. He had two brothers and a big sister Gisela (Günter) whose bond reached across the ocean until her passing. Hans-Dieter immigrated to Canada in 1954, anxiously preparing for the arrival of his beloved Ingrid in 1955. With shirts on their backs, holes in their pockets, willing working hands, and love in their hearts, together they commenced forging a new life. They could often be found strolling down Main Street hand in hand to watch the latest flick on the movie screen. Dad was a cultured man who carried his joy for the old movies, classical music, history, love of books and admiration for his greatest playwright Shakespeare. He was honest, and true to himself. A thoughtful and intelligent man, Dad enjoyed meaningful conversation on a wide variety of subjects, with a keen interest in the economy to which he and Terence didn't miss a beat on the TSE. After Dad's retirement from Federal Pioneer Electric, he enjoyed the simple things in life; coffee nights with his friends, chatting with the neighbors, nursing his tomatoes and flowers, feeding the bunnies and birds, and pouring visitors his bottomless bottles of homemade wine no matter what their age. He so enjoyed the company of their cats Tigger and little Marcie who was forever under his heels. Dad was at his best at family gatherings, that was when he shined; he knew how to have a good time. Please join us for John's Celebration of Life on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. A special thank-you to Dad's long time Dr. Lee, and to the caring staff at the Grace Hospital who helped ease the final days for this incredibly brave man through his health challenges. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's memory to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Ave., Winnipeg R3K 0Y1. My name is Terence Malone. John Malone was my Father. I want to say a few words about my Father. John was a husband, father, and grandfather. I wish he could have had more time with us, but we sure appreciate the 81 years he did give us. Dad shared his life experiences and knowledge with everyone who knew him. Over his lifetime he shared his memories and life experiences that spanned being a boy during World War 2 , to being 20 years deep into his retirement. In the early years when I was a kid I would help my dad repair the family car, and fix things in and around the house. I learned things that will last a lifetime. He never specifically set out to be a teacher, but he was. My dad taught me about investing and the value of money. In the later years he was not only my father but my comrade. He would call many times during the week to talk about anything that came to mind. We would travel together on errands to Costco, the bank, the barbershop and anywhere he wanted to go. My dad was compassionate, sensitive, caring, honest, tolerant, and exercised integrity. One of my Dad's favorite passages comes from Hamlet which he often quoted and lived by: Do not forever with thy vailed lids. Seek for thy noble father in the dust. Thou Know'st tis common. All that lives must die, passing through nature to eternity. I hope to one day be able to be everything my Father was. Thank you Dad for everything you have done for Me, Mom, Peggy, Iris and all our current and future generations to come. We will all miss you dearly. You will be remembered and cherished until we all meet again. Love Terence, - Posted by: Terence Malone (son) on: Sep 16, 2016
