RONALD (RON) CARSWELL BARBOUR With heavy hearts the family announces the sudden passing of Ron, on Monday, September 12, 2016, with his family at his side, at the age of 78 years. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife Claudia; daughters, Wendy (Wayne) Kardal, Karen MacLean, and Sandy (Mike) Marshall; seven granddaughters; five great-granddaughters and their families. He is also survived by his stepmother, Margaret Barbour; brother, Bud; sister-in-law, Bev (George) Glenday; brother-in-law, Gary Jackson and numerous other relatives and friends. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Alexandra; in-laws, Frank and Claire James; sister-in-law, Leslie Jackson; son-in-law, Jerry MacLean, and great grandson, Carter Goodman. Ron was a loving husband, who put his family first. During his 58 years of marriage with Claudia, they enjoyed camping, cottage life, and travelling, both as a couple and family, with his favorite destination being Hawaii. Known as an avid "sports junkie", his love for sports began early in his life and carried through the years as he shared his passion of many sports, with his daughters and granddaughters, encouraging all to not only have fun, but, most importantly, win the game! When not focused on family, Ron enjoyed his career as a sales rep in the pressure sensitive tape industry serving the Prairie Provinces for many years. In his retirement years, he could be found either at the family cabin at Spruce Lake or at the Assiniboine Golf Club, enjoying the friendship of many. Ron disliked attending funerals, although he did, but always said he would never attend his own. So to honour his wishes, there will be no service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care given to Ron, especially in his final hours. Donations in Ron's memory can be made to Assiniboine Golf Club, Cancer Care Manitoba or a charity of their choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Claudia: I last saw you two when I passed through Saskatoon enroute to my new job in Edmonton in 1960. For some reason today I thought back to that time and decided to see if I could find any information, and so I found Ron's obituary. I am so sorry for your loss but am more than happy to learn that you had such a lasting and happy marriage. I have vivid memories of the times in Winnipeg; Ron was larger than life. • Claudia,so sorry to hear of Ron's passing. I golfed with Ron at the Lowry tournament in June at Carman. As usual, lots of laughs and 1 topic of conversation-sports. I didn't work a lot of years with Ron but the time I did was more than enjoyable. Once he put his "work hat" on he was very professional.
