MARY ELIZABETH SIGURDSON (nee LITTLE) 1933 - 2016 On Friday, August 26, 2016, after a long battle with cancer, Mary passed away peacefully at Riverview. She joins the love of her life, her husband Len, who passed away on April 19, 2016. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children: Karen Bachewich (Brad), John, Lynn Prosser (Steve) and Rob (Sarah); her grandchildren Jessica, Pam, Lisa and Michael; Jodi, Andrew and Cori; Georgia and Erik (their mother Leslie); along with Izzy and Charlie (Sarah's children), and great-grandchildren Sadilyn and Olivia (mom Jodi). She is also survived by sister Janet Finlay, brother John, sister-in-law Jane Little, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Elliott M. and Elizabeth Dorothy' (Wilson) Little, brother Bruce, sister Sheila, and her grandson Scott (mom Karen). Mary was born in Quebec City on March 10, 1933. She was the eldest daughter. She attended Havergal in her formative years. After graduating Quebec High, she continued her studies in Home Economics, considered one of the best programs, at the University of Manitoba. Here she joined the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was able to enjoy a few of their reunions and was involved by being their registrar. It was at university where she met Len. They were married on June 14, 1958. She was a loving wife and mother, who loved golf and eventually took up the sport of curling when all her children were in school. She helped out as a leader for a local Girl Guide troupe. She also loved sewing, needlepoint and knitting. Many benefited from her beautiful creations. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, when she was 56, she started her volunteer work with CancerCare Manitoba. She supported those who were going through something similar, "an inspiration" says a close friend. She will be missed by all those who were blessed to have her in their lives. Our deepest gratitude to the Palliative Care Team for their compassion and care. In keeping with Mary's wishes there will not be a funeral service. In lieu of a service their combined ashes will be scattered simultaneously, in Winnipeg and Toronto, on the date of their wedding anniversary. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in her honour to CancerCare Manitoba or charity of your choice.

  • Aunt Mary was one of the kindest, most gentle people I ever met. She always made me feel calm and good about myself. One never saw her without the beautiful smile she had in the picture attached to the obituary. Aunt Mary touched my heart forever. - Posted by: Lindsey Minchella (neice ) on: Sep 18, 2016
