JOHN MARSHALL INNES On Monday, September 19, 2016 at his residence at Deer Lodge Center, John passed away peacefully in the presence of his family. John was born August 2, 1922 in Winnipeg, and spent his younger years in Point Douglas. John played hockey while growing up. He began working at a young age like many other men of his era. John bravely served his country in the Second World War. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Dragoon Regiment and did his duty in Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Shortly after retiring from his service overseas, John began a career with TCA, which later became Air Canada. John started on the ramp, working his way up to management. John accepted a position in Victoria B.C. in 1970. John was always admired and respected by his fellow workers. He retired as Customer Service Manager, Victoria Airport in 1983. John served as president and honorary life member of the Air Canada Pionairs. In his spare time and after retiring, John had two other loves in his life, curling and golf. John was a life member of Curl B.C. (1995) P.C.C.A., and an honorary life member of Curl Manitoba (1971). John served as a volunteer administrator of many curling events, giving generously of his time. He was also honoured with a membership in the Governor Generals' Curling Club in Ottawa. John was a long time member of Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria B.C. John could hit straight and long. John loved travelling, particularly his Hawaiian vacations. He made frequent trips to Winnipeg, where we enjoyed family dinners together and in our earlier years the family spent many enjoyable summers at Victoria Beach. John was predeceased by his wife Laura Innes; first wife Joan Aarons; mother Helen (George) Schneider; father Arthur Innes, and grandson Ryan Settee. John is survived by his three daughters, Wendy (Ron) Dueck, Moira (Aubrey) Settee, Aven (Alan) Mulholland; grandchildren, Naomi (Kent) Forman, Nathan (Rachele) Dueck, Alec (Christy) Settee, Gregg Makarowski, Reed Makarowski; great-grandchildren, Ava, Anne, Jaidyn and Brynlee. Our family thanks the staff of tower four, Deer Lodge Center, and all others involved in John's care. John enjoyed the visits from members of the Royal Canadian Legion, and the staff of 17 Wing. John was happy during his time at Deer Lodge. John loved life and did not give up easily. He remained upbeat and positive during the entire time of his care. John will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life for family and friends who knew John will be held at a family residence on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
