GERALDINE YANCHYNSKI On Friday, September 23, 2016 at approximately 1:30 p.m., at St. Boniface Hospital, with husband Larry, son Dylan, daughters Ruthie and Suzanne and her husband Kevin Shaddix of Bothel, Washington, brother Mark Cohen and wife Donna, sister Mandy of Vancouver, Gerri Yanchynski (nee Cohen) passed away. She was born in the North End on November 21, 1945 to Louis Cohen and Zelda (nee Bogdanov). She attended Belmont, Jefferson Jr. High and Garden City Collegiate. She briefly interrupted her studies (Psych) at the U of M for a year. During this time, Gerri met her lifelong partner Larry Yanchynski, moved to Vancouver, and married in Seattle, Wa on May 19, 1966. On returning to Winnipeg, she graduated with a B.A. in 1967. Over the years she taught school, worked as a social worker, and started a weaving business (Blue Loom Enterprises) in Brandon. She also took Accounting and worked for the Province. She was a poet, a talented pianist, and had also performed in several plays. Her main love was her family. Gerri was creative, deeply spiritual, witty and friendly; each time she went anywhere she made new friends, many of whom even though having met her only once, never forgot her. Six years ago, she suffered kidney failure and had to have dialysis until death overpowered her strong will to live. Her passing is a painful loss to all who knew her. Memorial service at the Antelope Room at the Holiday Inn, 1330 Pembina Hwy between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Manitoba).
