Dear Roysie/Poysie, I thought of you again, recently. I remember when we did shows for children at the Winnipeg Art Gallery Theatre, "Cinderella". I was one of the "ugly stepsisters". You and I would meet with others at "the Ritz" after classes or shows. We always wanted to make our mothers happy and get married. It was a fun game between you and I. Good old Actors Showcase, and Rainbow Stage. Well, good pal, you are in a less "crazy" place, a peaceful one. Until we meet again, in the great wide yonder. I was so shocked to hear of your passing. You taught both my older sister and I tap and jazz between 2002 and 2007, and rode the bus with each of us many times between Pembina and Whyte Ridge as well. I'll be honest, I hated the Roy Smith Game with a passion - but only because I kept losing! But in the end, it was always clear without looking at the program which dances were yours. You were tough, but that's what made you great. Thank you, Roy. Keep dancing. - Posted by: Kristin (Dance Student) on: May 22, 2020

Roy - my absolute favourite dance teacher of all time. I just thought of you out of the blue (however, I have thought of you many times before) and so i searched your name, only to learn that you have flown home and you are peacefully resting. You have brought so must joy to so many people, I am sure of this, because you had a profound effect on me, aged 5-12, you taught me the best damn, SHARP jazz hands ever. I loved playing your "Roy Smith game" and rehearsing with full facial expressions for the fear of your dreaded "sit down" hand tap on the shoulder (I never lost). I love you Roy. Thank you for everything. You will never be forgotten. Sincerely, Your "little lime green girl" Justine - Posted by: Justine Martin Johannson (Former dance student ) on: Mar 30, 2018
