LEONARD DANIELSON
Date of Passing: Oct 02, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARD (LEN) DANIELSON It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of Len Danielson, aged 86 years of Lundar, MB, on October 2, 2016 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, with family by his side. Len is survived by his sons Brian (Lindsay), Barry (Irene), Grant (Carol) and Ron (Katherine); grandchildren, Brett (Bojana), Scott and Erik; great-grandchild Brendan and special grandchildren, Georgia, Briggs and Steele; sister-in-law Kristine Danielson; niece Colleen Appleyard and family and extended family Ben and Jen Jowett. He is predeceased by his parents Harold and Dulla Danielson, his wife Margaret, brother Raymond Danielson and nephew Kenny Danielson. Len attended United College in Winnipeg and had Francis Johannason as a roommate. They remained long distance friends and kept in touch by telephone. Len got his mechanics license and worked in Dad's shop. Len and his brother Raymond took over the business in 1963, and in 1971 moved into the new shop location on Highway 6. Dad continued to come into the shop daily to make coffee and to visit with his friends who would drop in regularly to see him, have a cup of coffee and a sweet and discuss the news of the day. Dad enjoyed sports and played goal in hockey wearing a parka, no mask, leather mitts and magazines for padding. He played baseball, golfed at Teulon with Eric Johnson, before Lundar had a golf course, curled a little but really liked to bonspiel during the Lundar Ladies Bonspiel. Dad also liked photography and took many beautiful pictures, especially at the lake. He enjoyed electronics and loved his iPad and bragging that he was the first 80 year old in Lundar to have one. He loved social networking to keep up with his friends and to write the annual Christmas letter and to work on his family genealogy. Dad liked camping at Lundar Beach which led to a trailer on their lot and then to building their cottage at the same location. Many enjoyable summers were spent there which included having Brett and Scott with them for the entire season. Dad was an active volunteer which included Past Chairman of Lundar Pool, Past President of Lundar Minor Hockey, Grettir Board Member, Lundar Senior Citizen's Home Board Member, Lundar Fire Chief and member of the Elks. He was on the Planning Committee for the Lundar Golf Course, volunteer Ambulance driver and, after work, he would go with his father to help with the building of the Lundar Arena. Later in life Dad and Mom did some travelling. They went to Iceland twice where they enjoyed being with family that they had never met before, formed lifelong friendships and stayed in contact with them till the end. They took an Alaskan cruise and went on two bus excursions one to the East Coast and one to Nashville. Dad enjoyed gardening. Often the front window in the home would sport a half dozen violets which he alone cared for. He also loved his tomatoes. Each season he would take his best tomato, save the seeds and start his plants from them the following season. After doing this for a few growing seasons, Dad ended up with tomatoes that were all flesh and no seeds. When that happened, the next growing season he was given a few plants and the process started over again. Dad loved his pets and had a variety over the years. He had an aquarium which housed fish, a shark and a stingray. He also had many dogs which included Boots, Toby, Rocky One and Rocky Two. They were his constant companions. After Mom passed away in June of 2011, Dad and Rocky were inseparable. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2016 in the Lundar Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. A lunch will follow the service with an interment to take place in the Otto Churchyard Cemetery. Everyone in attendance can consider themselves Honorary Pallbearers. Thank you to all his friends who called and who visited Len at home and at the garage. In lieu of flowers, donations in Len's memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.
