BARRY WOODS Barry Woods, 84 years old, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2016 at Squamish General Hospital. He is survived by his wife Alice; brothers Gren and Keith; sister Elaine Gibson; sisters-in-law Lucille Woods and Josephine Girardin; son Randy Woods (Bo); daughter Debbie Hughson (Hal); grandson Anthony Hughson (Alisha); granddaughters Rebecca Cichon (Randy), Monica Steenaerts (Pete), Angela Woods (Mat); great-grandchildren Destiny, Robert, Finn and Eva. He was predeceased by his mother and father Muriel and Norville; his brother Blake; brothers-in-law Doe Girardin and Don Gibson; and sisters-in-law Joy Woods and Arlene Woods: Barry was born in Carmen, Manitoba and spent his younger years helping out on the family farm near Culross, Manitoba. He attended school in Elm Creek, Manitoba and many a night after chores were spent on the back of a horse going to and from Elm Creek to play hockey and baseball. Barry spent a couple of years working for Manitoba Telephone System before moving on to spend the next 43 years of his life working for N.M. Paterson Grain. He married Alice Simm and they moved to Emerson, Manitoba where he was employed as manager at the local Paterson grain elevator buying grain from local farmers. From there Barry moved to Killarney, Manitoba, once again taking on the job of elevator manager. From Killarney Barry moved his family to Swift Current, Saskatchewan where he was promoted to Superintendent. After three years he moved to Head Office in Winnipeg as Sales Manager a position he would hold until he retired. Barry retired at 62 and spent his early retirement years in Winnipeg but in 2009 moved with Alice to Squamish, BC to live with their daughter Debbie Hughson and son-in-law Hal. For the remainder of his days Barry could be found in the garden looking after his flowers and vegetables. Barry was committed to cremation September 29, 2016. A graveside celebration of his life will be held at Elm Creek Cemetery next spring, dates will follow in the new year for any of those wishing to attend. Barry will be remembered for his kindness, humour and his advice he shared with all who asked. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Squamish Hospice.
