WALTER VOTH Our dear dad, Walter Voth, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, on September 25, 2016. He was born on August 15, 1920 in Ludowsk, Russia, to Johannes and Katherine Voth. As the oldest child, he became 'big brother' to nine siblings. Together with his parents and two younger sisters, he immigrated to Canada in 1925. The rest of his childhood was spent with his family on a farm in Springstein, Manitoba. On September 18, 1943, he married the love of his life, Lena Rempel. They shared their journey through life together until God took her home on March 6, 2012. Together they grieved the loss of twins, Richard and Robert, who died shortly after birth. They raised three other children, Ken (deceased in 1999), Judy and Sharon. Dad was a very generous, humble person, who was often involved in helping others. Though he ran a big construction company in Winnipeg, he always had time for others. He was active for many years in Union Gospel Mission, CBMC, Gideons, Camp Arnes, as well as in his church, Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church. Along with many other activities, he helped lead several teams with Mennonite Disaster Service, rebuilding homes after natural disasters. Dad's family was very important to him and though Alzheimer's stole a lot of his mental abilities over the last years, his family and his faith in God remained the most important to him. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Voth and Judy Voth Hack (husband Al), three grandsons and two granddaughters, and their spouses, as well as 10 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. A private burial service will be held on Friday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, for close family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 1420 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gideons International.
