KENNETH LLOYD WERSCH The family of Kenneth Lloyd Wersch is saddened to announce his sudden passing on Friday, October 7, 2016 at the age of 68 years. Ken was born on August 7, 1948 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Lloyd and Eleanor Wersch. Growing up, Ken had a typical schooling, except for a one year trip to Trinidad, when his family moved there for his Dad's work with Manitoba Hydro. Ken met Karen Currah while they were both in diploma nursing training in Winnipeg. They fell in love and then married on October 23, 1971. They were one of the only couples married while in nursing training and this even made the Toronto newspaper! Post-graduation Ken had a scholarship to the University of Saskatchewan, where he got his degree in Nursing. From there they lived in Brandon, MB; Flin Flon, MB; Yorkton, SK; Steinbach, MB; and then finally Rosetown, SK, while Ken developed his career as a health care executive. Ken spent many years as a member of local Rotary Clubs; he also did many health care accreditation surveys. This allowed him to expand his love of travel and he did accreditation surveys in the Middle East, Newfoundland, and other parts of Canada. Ken and Karen loved to travel and see the world. After visiting their daughter, Christina, in China, they continued a lifetime of travel seeing places such as: Egypt, Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand and Israel. Ken often joked that he was cursed by a broad interest in his many hobbies (stamp collecting, coin collecting, photography, music, genealogy, bird watching and coffee connoisseurship) never getting to everything that he wanted to do. His grandchildren were his pride and joy; he loved to attend their many sports and music activities. "Grumpa's" sense of humour and teasing were always enjoyed by his grandchildren. Since retirement in 2008, Ken and Karen enjoyed being snowbirds and travelling to the USA. After trying many places, they settled on Arizona as their favourite winter spot. Ken is survived by his loving wife Karen Wersch; parents, Lloyd and Eleanor Wersch; daughter Kerry-Lynn (Kevin) Fielden and their family: Kieran, Moira and Ainsley Fielden; daughter Christina Wersch; son Ryan Wersch (Ozen Turkekul) and their family: Hayden and Garein Wersch, and Ada Usenmez; sister Marnie (Jack) Lee and their family: Sandy (Paul) Shaffar and family, and Aaron (Jennifer) Lee and family; brother David (Elaine) Wersch and their family: Matthew (Diane) Wersch and Jodie (Devon) Klassen and family, plus many more in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents: Millie and Ralph Exner, Roy and Lily Wersch; as well as his in-laws, Lanty and Freda Currah. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosetown United Church, with Reverend Val From and Reverend Lauren Miller officiating. Memorial donations in memory of Ken may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, 20 Eglinton Ave. W., 16th Floor, Toronto, ON M4R 1K8. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Karen and family. I was saddened to hear of Ken's passing. I have many fond memories of our time in nursing school. Ken was one of the "guys" in the Class of 72A who was a constant source of encouragement and support to me. He helped keep me going when things got difficult. Ken was truly one of the nicest people I have ever known. He will be missed. With condolences, Dean Care (Class of 72B) - Posted by: Dean Care (WGH Alumnist (Class of 72B) and friend) on: Oct 18, 2016
