She was surrounded with love. Mary was born in southern Ontario on June 23, 1931. In 1958 she moved to Winnipeg to marry and start her family. The Arts, nature and politics were her special interests. Graduating from Stratford Normal School in 1952, she became a teacher. She taught in London and Oshawa, ON, then later in Charleswood and was a Teacher Librarian in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division, retiring in 1987. In 1980 Mary graduated with a B Ed Degree from the University of Manitoba. Working for Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council was an important time in her life. She was a long time member of the NDP, striving for social justice. She was an active member of the United and Unitarian Churches, caring for the underprivileged. All her life she was an ardent Canadian Nationalist. She had represented Manitoba on the National Board of the Council of Canadians where she worked for a stronger Canada. Mary had many friends at the RehFit Centre on Taylor Avenue. She always wished to make this world a better place. What we desire for ourselves we wish for all. Mary is survived by her three children, Daniel/Tim, Dianne (Phil), Angus (Karen) and her special grandchildren, Maija, Megan and Talon and Danelle and Ian. Memorial Service will be held at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame, on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. Instead of flowers, kindly help someone less fortunate than yourself.
