DR. KENNETH (KEN) ROBERT BROWN MD (AOA), MBA November 5, 1937- October 18, 2016 Ken died peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Ken was raised in Paris, Ontario, forever known to his children as "the most beautiful town in the world". His family later moved to Brantford, where he met, fell in love with and married his life partner Gwenyth (Niki) Fawcett. Ken went on to receive his MD (AOA) in 1962 and later his MBA in 1966 from the University of Western Ontario. Ken and Niki married in 1960, and after a time in Family Practice the new family relocated to Manitoba, where he pursued a long and fulfilling career in Health Care Administration initially at the Winnipeg General Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, University of Manitoba and later at the College of Physicians and Surgeons as the Assistant Registrar and finally Registrar. He maintained a life-long interest in Primary Care and was particularly pleased to see his efforts to introduce physician assistants to Manitoba come to fruition. Everywhere he went, whether in his professional life, volunteering at the CNIB, at the cottage, and even back to his class in Medicine, our father made friends that he treasured and who remained dear to him throughout his life. Remembering Ken with love are his wife Gwenyth, children Rob (Nancy), Jennifer Dumore (Tim), Lisa Johnson (Grant), and Cathy Schneider (David), and grandchildren Heather and Allison Brown, Thomas, Lucas and Danica Dumore, Ryan and Ethan Johnson, and Jessie and Samantha Schneider. Ken's true passion was always family. When his brother Murray brought his wife Suzanne and their family to Winnipeg, they became closer than ever. In 1986, the family acquired a cottage at Otter Falls. Ken came to love that cottage. It was his happy place and is the setting of so many of our family's wonderful memories. A new generation has grown up there with Grandpa's Saturday morning breakfasts for 20, crosswords with Grandpa in the sunroom or on the deck, charades in the evening and opening one of Grandpa's legendary impossible clues (seriously - "Boadicea"?). Ken discovered painting and drawing after he retired, and both our cottage and their home are alive with his art. Ken owned many dogs in his life (Mickey, Maggie, Sam, Effie) each one doted upon, cherished and spoiled more than the last. Of all of the many passions that filled his life, none compared to his absolute devotion to his wife Niki. He has touched many lives. Everyone who knew Ken was better for it. He will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held October 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard.
