Date of Passing: Oct 21, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICKY (RICK) LEE MURRAY FRIESEN March 10, 1970 - October 21, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick Friesen on Friday, October 21, 2016. After a short, brave struggle, Rick peacefully left his beloved family and many friends to be with Jesus. Rick is survived by his true love, friend and wife Sherilynn Friesen (nee Opitz); children Kyla, Jadyn, and Peyton; his parents, Marty and Chris; sister Kim; and her children Michelle, Cody and Cole. He is also survived by his in-laws Martin and Sylvia Opitz and brothers-in-law Martin, Wayne (Teresa); their children Jordan and Dylan, and also his brother in-law extraordinaire Brian. Born on March 10, 1970, Rick entered this world as a special gift to his parents. From an early age it was evident that Rick had a passion for life, for his family, his friends (especially Ron) and for sports - loving to play slo-pitch, golf and in particular, hockey. While Rick's gusto for life increased as he matured, the ultimate fulfillment which defined him, was being a loving husband and incredibly proud father to his three girls. Through the wonderful years together as a family, Rick's gifts were self-evident and easily discerned by his involvement in his children's sporting accomplishments (his face would light up when he shared stories about them), and joyous get-togethers with family and friends. A top-notch backyard chef, master host, devoted husband, father and friend, Rick's presence will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten. Sherilynn, her daughters and family would also like to extend a special thank you to Rick's best friends, Ron Allard and Kelly Yuskin for their true friendship over the course of Rick's life. They would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the ICU staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Viscount Gort Hotel, 1670 Portage Avenue at 11:00 a.m., Royal Banquet Hall In the end it is not the years in your life that count. It is the life in your years. Rick accomplished a huge life in the years he was with us, which we are so grateful to have shared with him. In Rick's memory a trust account has been established for his children. Donations may be made in person at the Winnipeg Police Credit Union, 300 William Ave. "The Friesen Girls" trust account or by emailing KJPtrust@winnipeg.ca to ask for the required information to facilitate an e-transfer.
