Condolences & Memories (19 entries)

  • I have so many fond memories of my cousin Ameen. As a young teenage girl in the late 1970s, I set out on a journey from Guyana to Winnipeg. Once in Winnipeg, my wonderful Auntie Carmen and Uncle Hanif became my guardian angels. At that time Ameen was only six years old, and every Sunday my Uncle Hanif routinely played cricket at Assiniboine Park, and my Auntie Carmen and her friends would prepare "potluck lunches". We would all have a picnic and eat our lunches, and Ameen and I would ride our bikes and then go off for a Steam Train Ride in the park. A few years later, Esau joined us. Oh, such fond memories. Ten years later, Ameen blossomed into this beautiful handsome prince, a 6' 3" tall young man with both inner and outer beauty. Ameen was a peaceful, gentle and kind young man who was filled with laughter and joy, and had hopes of a great future ahead. Ameen was always ready to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. I recalled how Ameen would visit me at my apartment in Tuxedo when I was going through my own grief and heartaches, and Auntie Carmen would call to check in and make sure we were OK. Ameen was a guy filled with zest and vitality, and he loved his wonderful wife Monique and three children Shakeel, Isaiah and Jasmeen. In August of 2016, my husband John and I visited Ameen at Seven Oaks Hospital. Despite Ameen's medical condition and many stressors, he had an optimistic and positive outlook on life. On Sunday, August 21, Shelly bought a birthday cake and we all celebrated Ameen's 42nd birthday and wished him many more birthdays. Ameen shared with me that when he is discharged from the hospital, he planned to study real estate and become an agent and provide for his children's university education. Prior to returning home to Toronto on the following Tuesday, we went to visit Ameen at Seven Oaks to say goodbye, but there was no Ameen. He had told the nurses that his cousin Ashley and her husband John were coming to visit at 11:00 a.m., and so he asked them to tell us to wait for him, as he had gone off to have a hair cut so as to look pretty and presentable for his family. Ameen was so proud to show us his new hair cut and sweater, not realizing that this day would be our last visit with him. Ameen, the Lord called you home so young, but I suppose your time had come. Your life was too short, but I know Monique and her family will continue to support the children in all aspects of life. Monique, Shakeel, Isaiah and Jasmeen, you are all in our thoughts and prayers and rest assured our support will always be there for the family. To my Auntie Carmen, Uncle Hanif, Shelly and Esau, although I cannot fill that emptiness in your hearts, I will continue to lend a helping hand and cherish our fond memories of brother Ameen. طيب الله ثراه Rest in Peace my brother Ameen, until we meet again. • It is so surreal to me to hear that Ameen has passed. We were friends back in the early nineties. In those days he was kind, fun, hard-working and loved his family and friends with all of us heart. After many years of not being in contact, I ran into him unexpectedly. He was beaming and so proud to share with me that he had married an amazing woman and was a father to two young sons that he adored (Jasmeen was not yet born). That was the last time that I saw him and I am thankful for that last conversation, and seeing that same joyful look in his eyes and kind spirited nature that I had known so long ago. My heartfelt condolences to his family. - Posted by: Sharon () on: Nov 02, 2016
