MARGARET ALBERTA COONEY (nee HAZELWOOD) June 28, 1925 October 31, 2016 In Loving Memory With heavy hearts, we announce the very sudden but peaceful passing of our dear mother, sister and grandmother. At the age of 91 and after a very brief illness, Margaret passed away at the Grace Hospital with her sister Doreen gently by her side. She was a resident at the Deer Lodge Centre Tower 6. Margaret was the first child born to Sidney and Margaret Hazelwood in Winnipeg, Manitoba and shortly thereafter the family moved to Stony Mountain, Manitoba. Margaret entered the Army during the Second World War and proudly served her country until the war ended. She then became a telephone operator with MTS and a switchboard operator with BCTel and also enjoyed other employment. Margaret met a dashing young man, William (Bill) Cooney and they were married on January 5, 1962 and later became a stay at home Mom. She enjoyed dancing, reading, her church, Bible study, visiting with family and friends and also her daily visits at Tim Horton's for coffee with her group of friends. She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her son Brian (Mona) and daughter Diane; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; her sister Doreen Stansfield (Jim); brother George (Marg); sisters-in-law, Dora and Audrey; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In 1998 she lost her husband Bill and was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Sid, Alex, Michael and Fred; sisters, Gladys and Louise. We would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff at the Deer Lodge Centre, Tower 6 and also to the compassionate staff at the Grace Hospital during her brief stay. As per Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral service will be held. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
