Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET MATTHEWS October 28, 1927 - October 31, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Margaret Matthews on October 31, 2016 at Peace Arch Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Frank; her children Grace-Evelyn (Brian), and John (Judy); grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew, Shauna, and Meaghan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Henry and Katherine Chambers, as well as her sister Anna Firman. Margaret was born in Treherne, Manitoba on the family farm. She attended university in Winnipeg and earned her Bachelor of Arts and a Certificate of Teaching. She went on to teach in rural areas of Manitoba and later in Winnipeg. While attending university, Margaret met her husband Frank. He rode by on a bicycle while she was sitting on the front porch. They later married in 1951. Family was incredibly important to Margaret. She kept in communication with family and friends across the country and was, more often than not, hosting them in her home. She continued this tradition after moving from Winnipeg for the milder climate of South Surrey. She believed in community service and was a member of the Jaycettes and the Lionelles, as well as volunteering through the church. A prolific knitter, Margaret produced numerous hats and mittens to raise money for the church. She also lovingly made countless sweaters and mittens for her family all of which are treasured as cozy works of art. Cards were a big part of Margaret's life. She enjoyed playing cards and the camaraderie that went along with it. Margaret will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Arbor Chapel at Valley View Funeral Home, 14460 72nd Ave., Surrey, B.C. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. For online condolences visit www.valleyviewsurrey.ca

John Please accept our deepest condolences to you and your family. I fondly remember in our early school years spending time after school, and time at your family cottage at Hillside Beach.(If I remember correctly) You mom was such a kind woman. My families thoughts and prayers are with you and yours at this time of loss. Doug Marks and Family - Posted by: Doug Marks (Childhood Freind of John) on: Nov 09, 2016
