JOHN EMLYN GRIFFITH HUGHES Sadly Mr. John Emlyn Griffith Hughes of Winnipeg passed on November 5, 2016 at the age of 82. "Johnny" was born on July 7, 1934. He grew up in Fort Rouge and attended Kelvin High. As a young man he excelled at hockey and baseball. Working for 40 years as a carman for CNR and Via Rail he retired in 1990. Curling, golf, hunting and fishing were just a few of his favourite pastimes. A natural handyman, he was capable of building or repairing most anything. Mabel and Johnny enjoyed trips south to Mexico, Arizona and especially Las Vegas where he loved playing craps. Betting the ponies at the Downs was a lifelong passion and just recently he hit some big winners. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine of Flinchis, Wales and his five siblings Ivor, Dan, Bill, Betty and Gladys. He will be dearly missed by his wife Mabel, their children Dan, David (Sandy), Joanne and his grandchildren Meagan and Liam. No services will be held and please no flowers at John and Mabel's request. Just take a moment to remember John.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • When I think of John I remember a man who built a full kitchen in Winnipeg and somehow shipped it to Vancouver and then came and installed it for us. He could build or repair just about anything. I think of a man who loved the weather channel, the news, watching curling, hockey, football or just about any other sport on TV. I'll remember him as a quiet, determined man who was made of steel. I'll miss his smile and will raise a toast in his honor. - Posted by: Sandra Smith () on: Nov 12, 2016
