REMI VERSAVEL It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Remi Versavel on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the age of 91 years. Dad was predeceased by his parents Marie Louise Van Eeckhout and Jules Versavel, his sister Martha Versavel, and brother Rene Versavel. Remi is survived by his wife Denise, children Joseline, Luc (Hilary), Patrick (Lori), and Dominique; grandchildren, Neil (Valerie), Alan, Kelsey and Rowan; great-grandchildren, Melodie and Aiden, as well as brother Andre (Gabrielle) Versavel, sister Maria Versavel and nieces in Belgium. Dad was born on April 6, 1925 in Passchendaele, Belgium. Remi was farming in Belgium until he moved with his family to Canada in September 1965. This was to fill a dream based on stories of opportunities in Canada told to him by his father Jules who spent several years working on the Transcontinental Railroad. Initially Remi worked on a dairy farm and a hog farm before settling in on a long career with Dyck's Containers in North Kildonan. After several years of living in the city, the family moved in 1979 to an acreage in the Oakbank area, fulfilling a dream to have some land to work and carry on the farming activities that he enjoyed. Dad was a hardworking man who laboured diligently and took great pride with developing the property. Always ready to take on any task he converted a bare home site into a green space with shade trees and beautiful gardens. He loved gardening, along with raising a variety of birds, waterfowl, rabbits and calves - spending countless hours after his regular work tending to his trees and animals. His greatest enjoyment was to tour friends and guests through the property and show off the results of his work. He will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. We thank the staff of Concordia Place Personal Care Home for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Remi's honour to a charity of choice.
