Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Les and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Brian sounds like a remarkable man and I remember how much your Dad enjoyed his company. My thoughts are with you all. Yvonne. - Posted by: Yvonne McKinnon (cousin) on: Nov 18, 2016

  • I started working with Brian in 1999 when I was a student at the University of Manitoba and continued working with him until I left for internship in 2004. It was a great pleasure to be there for many of his successes, such as being awarded a Canada Research Chair and being promoted to Full Professor. His surprise 40th birthday party organized by Cheryl was also very memorable. His passion for research was only exceeded by his passion for his family. Brian created a fantastic experience for those that worked with him. The team was productive, but more importantly Brian fostered a high level of comradery that I have not experienced since. Brian provided me with great mentorship and support with my research career, but he went well beyond that providing rides home from work, reading suggestions, thoughtful gifts, and wise counsel regarding research, academia, and larger life issues. His passing has prompted a long stream of great memories about this wonderful mentor and friend. Brian, I too “enjoyed the laughs” and wish we could have shared more. My deepest condolences to Brian’s family and friends. - Posted by: Lachlan McWilliams (Former supervisee) on: Nov 17, 2016

  • I had the pleasure of working directly with Brian on a couple of graduate student advisory committees and just as a friend in the Psychology department. Brian was truly excellent in an advisory relationship. He was dedicated to research and the department. His loss will be greatly felt. - Posted by: John McIntyre (Former colleague) on: Nov 17, 2016

  • Brian and I were students together at the University of Winnipeg and later colleagues at the University of Manitoba. He was a brilliant scientist, a giving and thoughtful mentor to his students, and a kind and generous man. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family and to all those he touched. - Posted by: Todd Mondor (colleague) on: Nov 16, 2016
