NOREEN MAE CASS On November 15, 2016, with family by her side, our beloved great-grandmother, grandmother, mom, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away at the age of 93. Noreen is now reunited with her husband Raymond, sister and brothers, Berenice, Vincent, and Donald. She is survived by sons, Alan (Seria), Daryl, and Kevin (Kathy), grandsons Evin, Aaron and Kyle, granddaughter Meagan (Ryan), great-granddaughter Madison, sister Gertrude, and her daughters Noreen (David), Beryl and Bonnie (Randy). Noreen was born, grew up, and finished high school in Tantallon, Saskatchewan. After high school she then sowed a few wild oats, going to Flin Flon to help her sister, followed by time in Ottawa working for the army records department. In 1943 she decided to settle down, and came to Winnipeg, to train as a Registered Nurse at the Women's Pavilion of the Winnipeg General Hospital. After graduating she left Winnipeg to work at the Morden Hospital. It was in Morden where she met a dashing Air Force pilot Raymond. They were married in 1950. The life of an Air Force wife began, three children born in three different provinces, and also the start of friendships which lasted the rest of her life. In the fall of 1964 the family returned to Winnipeg, Noreen returned to nursing at the Women's Pavilion, where she worked until retirement. Noreen wasn't one to sit still. Family and friends were not the only ones to benefit from her abilities at baking and knitting. Many of the goodies went to her church's ladies auxiliary sales. Noreen kept track of all her nieces and nephews, and then their children and grandchildren's birthdays, cards always arriving on time. Her last, and maybe proudest achievement was reaching the rank of Great-Grandmother, when on November 9, Meagan and Ryan announced the birth of their daughter, Madison Carol. In the past few days there was not a doctor or nurse who Noreen did not let know about the newest addition to her family. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Assiniboine Links Assisted Living for their help and friendship, over the past years. The home care and CancerCare nurses, all the staff of Grace Hospital emergency and Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and care the past few months. At Noreen's request no formal service will be held, a family interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Manitoba.

  • I always loved how she hid money in birthday cakes. Such a small thing, but that's what will always stay with me. - Posted by: Christine (Ali) Naismith () on: Nov 22, 2016

  • A kind, intelligent, soft spoken, humorous, articulate lady - not enough adjectives to describe her. Just a delight to know and now she soars with the angels! - Posted by: Gail and Jerry Morlock (Gail's Aunt) on: Nov 18, 2016
