RETA (RITA) GUICHERET-FISHER February 7, 1916 - November 7, 2016 After a long and productive life, it is with regret that we announce the death of Rita Guicheret-Fisher on Monday, November 7, 2016, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 100 years. Left to cherish Rita's memory are her son, Wayne Guicheret (Carol) of Winnipeg; daughter, Marilyn Clark (Al Noakes) of Oyama, British Columbia; grandchildren, Kelly, Darren, Deborah, Chrissie, and Bradley; five great-grandchildren; as well as extended family. She was predeceased by her brother Bruce (during the Second World War); parents Sam and Lydia Fudge; husband Maurice Guicheret; and second husband Archibald Fisher. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rita grew up on Colony Street. After graduating from Success Business College, she began working at the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1939 Rita married Maurice Guicheret. She and Maurice resided on Colony Street where Wayne and Marilyn were born. The family belonged to All Saints Anglican Church where Rita was an active volunteer. She and the children often vacationed in Vancouver with her mother, Lydia, as Maurice was frequently absent with his job on the railway. The family moved to Sharp Boulevard in 1955 and Rita returned to the Hudson's Bay Company. She was an original member of The Bay Choir for as long as it existed and was often the organizer of department social activities. She was a dedicated and enthusiastic employee and attained the position of Senior Supervisor of Ladies' Sleepwear. Family vacations were spent at Clear Lake, Winnipeg Beach and Detroit Lakes where Rita and Maurice enjoyed camping. Rita loved to buy things, so, when boats were on sale one particular Bay Day, she bought one. This led to the purchase in 1962 of a lakeshore lot in Lac du Bonnet where Rita actively assisted in the construction of the family cottage. From that time on, she and Maurice spent weekends and holidays at the lake. Family was always welcome. Rita was an enthusiastic gardener, an avid knitter and a good cook. She enjoyed fishing and could fillet a Pickerel in a flash. She was a loving parent and grandparent - cheerful, energetic and hardworking - and could always be counted on to add life to a party. Following their retirement, Rita and Maurice moved to the lake with their beloved Cocker Spaniels, Sable and Rocky. Christmas season at the lake was an occasion for tobogganing, skating and a big bonfire on the ice. They enjoyed lake life for 10 years, during which time they made several road trips in their camper to visit Marilyn and her family on the West Coast. After Maurice's death in 1991, Rita took an apartment in Winnipeg. Shortly thereafter, at a Bay retirees' Christmas party, she became reacquainted with Archie Fisher, a former colleague. Rita and Archie were married in 1993 and enjoyed an active lifestyle. They cruised the Caribbean, travelled abroad and visited family in the U.S. and Canada. When they moved to The Westhaven, they made many new friends and took a keen interest in all the activities. Rita originated a weekly knitting group called 'The Knitwits'. Following Archie's death in 2010, Rita took up residence at the West Park Manor Personal Care Home. Even at this stage of her life, Rita was particular about her appearance and was always fashionably dressed. In compliance with Rita's wishes no formal Funeral Service will be held. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. We would like to extend sincere thanks to the nursing and administrative staff at the West Park Manor for providing a pleasant and caring environment for Rita. We are grateful that she retained good health for most of her later years. If desired, donations may be made in memory of Rita to the Manitoba Lung Association, 301 - 1 Wesley Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4C6, The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3, or a charity of choice. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • As a young department manager at The Bay, I was lucky enough to have Rita as my supervisor in the Sleepwear department. We had tremendous success and her boundless energy, keen enthusiasm and customer focus were a big part of the why behind that! I also knew Archie Fisher-a fine and wise gentleman, and I was delighted to meet them together at ST Charles Country Club many years later when those two wonderful people had discovered each other. I will never forget either of them and my memories of Rita remain crystal clear and I cherish them! Doneta Brotchie - Posted by: Doneta Brotchie (Co-worker) on: Feb 28, 2017
