Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE MAY (LINK) FEENEY May 31, 1923 - November 14, 2016 Bernice passed away peacefully on Monday, after being in Palliative Care at Victoria Hospital for a brief time. She is survived by her son Ross, daughters Donna and Mara, by three of her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bernice was born and raised in Winnipeg, the eldest of four children born to Charles Wesley Link and Ella Jane (Tarr) Link. Among her greatest childhood pleasures was spending time in MacGregor with her extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. After graduating from high school, she held jobs in a cookie factory and a department store, and enjoyed an active social life with her friends. During the Second World War, she met Harold Feeney, an Australian Air Force navigator who was training in Winnipeg. In 1946, she traveled to Australia to marry him, and they returned to Winnipeg a few years later to raise their children. They built a cabin on Deception Lake, where they spent many summer weekends. The family subsequently moved to Pennsylvania and New Jersey, where Bernice was a homemaker and held a variety of secretarial positions. She enjoyed her hobbies, including ceramic crafts, knitting, sewing and baking. She traveled to Europe twice - once with her daughter and once with a cousin. After the children had grown up, Bernice and Harold returned to Winnipeg. Bernice joined the staff at Winnipeg City Hall, where she worked in the Personnel Department for a decade before retiring. As a widow, Bernice was among the first residents of Kirchhoff Gardens, a senior residence built by Faith Lutheran Church. She enjoyed living there for a quarter century, before needing personal care services. She resided at Golden Links Lodge until her passing. Bernice was interred at Brookside Cemetery in a private ceremony on November 18. Special thanks to the Link family (wife and children of Bernice's brother Ed), and friends Ruth Drewitt and Joanne Watchman for the friendship and support they provided to Bernice. She will be missed by all.
