RON JAMES Peacefully, with his family and friends by his side, Ron passed away at Bethesda Hospital on November 15, 2016. Ron is survived by his wife Linda, sons Kevin (Lisa), and Jonathan (Gillian), grandchildren Heidi, Justin, Megan and Amelia, nephews Bob, Tom, Wes and Michael, and nieces Debbie, Lori, Tracy, Jackie, Sherry and Debbie. Dad's strength, courage and kindness will be missed by all who knew him. Dad was born in Neepawa on February 2, 1944 to Anna (nee Hollander) and Henry Grieder. Henry was a skilled tradesman with multiple talents in a diverse array of trades. This was apparent in all four of his sons as they (Henry, Bob, Wilf and Dad) were all exceptional tradesman. Although Dad's trade was a little different and didn't involve quite as many hands on tools as a broadcaster, he brought a high level of precision and performance to his work. Dad managed to express his abilty to create and build and this was evident in his many renovation projects in each and every one of the homes Linda and Ron provided for us. Ron also had a two-year hiatus from broadcasting after returning to University to become a schoolteacher. After four years of teaching grade 6 at General Byng in Winnipeg he decided Broadcasting was his true calling and returned to Goldenwest in Altona (am 950) and Steinbach (am1250) for the next 30 plus years of his working career. When Goldenwest gave Dad the opportunity to transfer to Steinbach he jumped at the opportunity. As a young man in high school Dad would often hitchhike on a Friday afternoon from Neepawa to Steinbach to stay with his aunt Hannah and Uncle Albert Hollander on their farm in Friedensfeld. So the transfer was like a homecoming for him. Mom and Dad also found a warm and welcoming family in Christ at St. Paul's Lutheran in Steinbach and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship here. Mom and Dad would be married 50 years this coming July. Your love and commitment to one another shine brightly. Ron, Husband, Dad, Grampa, Uncle, Friend and one in the spirit you will be forever in our hearts. Memorial service is Monday, November 21 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St., Steinbach, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of one's choosing.
