JOHN MISTELBACHER October 23, 1938 - November 18, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather John Mistelbacher. After a long and brave struggle following his stroke in 2011, Johnny passed away peacefully at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home at the age of 78. He will be forever remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol, and his sons Grant (Nadine) and Darryl (Sybil), as well as his grandchildren Kayla and Shane, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Johnny was predeceased by his father and mother Karl and Christine Mistelbacher and each of his siblings: Charlie, Mary, Frankie, Ernie, Theresa, Adele, Addie, and Christine, as well as his father and mother-in-law George Sr. and Eva, his brothers-in-law George Jr. and Maurice, sisters-in-law Helen, Cecile, and Doreen. He is survived by his brothers-in-law Marcel, Terry, and Danny, and sisters-in-law Stella, Gloria, and Fran. Johnny was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting almost any type of game from moose to deer to goose to turkey, and he loved to get back to nature and spend time hunting with friends and family. He especially enjoyed his annual hunting "expeditions" with his sons Grant and Darryl out to Bissett, only to return and recall the entire trip and how they had just missed getting the big one. From the beginning Johnny was a farmer and continued to enjoy farming, living on the family farm until his retirement in 2005 when they sold the farm and moved out to their cottage in Belair. As much as he loved his farm, he really enjoyed the freedom of cottage living and he went from being an avid hunter to feeding the deer by hand, but he continued his annual moose hunting trip. He enjoyed the solitude of cottage living and would sit by the fire and enjoy the wildlife wandering through his yard. Johnny had a competitive nature and enjoyed curling, golfing, skiing, and hunting. He also loved to play cards and was a slippery competitor so you had to always keep your eyes on him. Johnny loved to ski and was so happy when we could all get out to the mountains with our family and friends and swoosh down the hills and enjoy a beverage and meal together afterwards. Johnny and Carol also enjoyed many trips together, going to Hawaii, Vegas, Florida, Portugal, and most recently Texas. We would like to thank the staff at St. Norbert Personal Care Home for their care of Johnny, and a special thank you to Fran and Pam for sitting with Johnny through his final days. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 24 from Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Maurice Gobeil, Brian DeMeyer, Marlene Munroe, Karl, Lance, and Frank Mistelbacher. Honorary Pallbearer is Bob Watt. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Movement Centre of Manitoba, 1646 Henderson Highway. Although you are gone, you will never be forgotten. Love you always. Carol, Grant and Nadine, Darryl and Sybil, Kayla, and Shane. • We have fond memories of Johnny. He was a kind gentleman. We loved the visits he and Carol made to Edmonton along with Karen and Don Van. The last time we saw him was out at the lake. He warned us about bears!! We had a BBQ and everyone had a good time. It was nice to connect with the cousins again. Good bye to a great guy!! Carol, we are thinking of you.
