Born: May 24, 1931
Date of Passing: Nov 18, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTORIA MAY MCTAGGART (née PECKHAM) (BUELOW) 1931 - 2016 After a full and meaningful life, Vicky passed away, surrounded by her loving family, at the Concordia Hospital on Friday, November 18, 2016, at the age of 85. Vicky is mourned by her husband, Jack; sister, Gloria Bassett; brother Bill Peckham (Ann); her five children: Brian Buelow (Donna Conroy), Karen Shanks (Brian), Wendy Buelow (Dave Lewis), Carla Buelow Fisher (David Fisher) and Bruce Buelow; along with her grandchildren: Leah (John), Scott (Michelle), Clara, Erin, Travis, Max, Eva, Owen and Madden; great-grandchildren, Mya and Hudson, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Lillian and William Peckham, and her first husband Bernhard Buelow. Victoria was born on May 24, 1931, to loving and thrilled parents in the small town of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. Growing up in this community instilled in Vicky the values of friendship, compassion and kindness, which she carried throughout her life. After high school, Vicky trained as a registered nurse at the Winnipeg General Hospital, graduating with the class of 1952B. While training, she developed friendships with her classmates that lasted a lifetime. In 1953, Vicky married Bernhard Buelow. Together, they started a family and she left nursing to raise their five children. At their home in Fort Garry, her life was filled with kids, neighbours and community. She returned to nursing in the early 1970s, this time as a geriatric nurse at the Conquist Nursing Home, where she worked until retirement. Vicky married Jack McTaggart in 1999. Every year she looked forward to spending the coldest months of winter in Victoria with Jack. They brought each other such happiness and joy. Friends were incredibly important to Vicky, and she had many. She valued and cherished these relationships. She brought out the best in everyone that was lucky enough to get to know her. Vicky had a strong enthusiasm for life and the world. Every week, she met with the Ladies Church Study Group where they discussed current issues with open minds and empathy. She also supported many causes, including a family in Uganda as part of her brother Bill's work with Eagles Wings Children's Village. She enjoyed hiking, cross-country skiing and skating. She also found happiness in gardening, bird watching and her beloved dogs Laddie, Nipshe and Sally. Vicky always spent summers at her cottage in Matlock with family and a close community of friends from many different generations. She loved singing around the campfire, sitting on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, biking down gravel roads and the annual family talent extravaganza "Live at Matlock". Her ties to this community run deep and have been passed down to her children and grandchildren. Thank you to Jack for being such a wonderful partner to Mom and for your special care in these last days. Thank you to Christian, Ted, Marjorie, Liz, Sarah, Dr. Macek and all the wonderful staff at the ICU Concordia Hospital. And last, but not least, thank you to everyone who helped make Vicky one of the happiest women in the world. Memorial service and celebration of Victoria's life will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Concordia Village auditorium, CV 2 Entrance, 1115 Molson St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Winnipeg Harvest, Siloam Mission, Concordia Foundation (Wellness Projects) or charity of your choice.

Beautiful tribute Clara. The times that I have spent in Matlock with your family are cherished memories. Your Grandma Vicky's bountiful joie de vivre was irresistibly infectious. Much love to the beautiful Buelow-Lewis family. Nick - Posted by: Nick Liang (Friend) on: Nov 23, 2016

Vicky was such a warm, loving , caring lady who I am proud to have known and had the chance to spend time with. She even had my surprise wedding shower at her place 1991, and Grandpa Peckham was the only male allowed to attend. She had an infectious smile and laugh and I am a better person to have known her. - Posted by: Coreena Keeley () on: Nov 23, 2016
