RUTH PALMOUR Ruth Palmour completed her life with grace, at home in North Vancouver, on November 18, 2016 in her 94th year. Ruth was a proud native of Winnipeg and daughter of Constance (Consie) and Andrew (Pally) Palmour. Her brothers, Allan and Thomas, predeceased her at relatively young ages. After business college, Ruth went to work for the Hudson Bay Company as a secretary for Richard Bonnycastle. When Mr. Bonnycastle left the company, she followed him to Advocate Press, where she enjoyed a long and exciting career in publishing. She was instrumental in developing the Harlequin Romance brand, which became an international success from unassuming offices in Winnipeg. Ruth was very proud that the company remained in Winnipeg until the late 1970s. To see Ruth, was to see a petite beauty; to talk to Ruth was to experience a kind and wholehearted listener; to work with Ruth was to be amazed by the bright and fiercely determined woman who left no small detail unexamined. She was quiet in public, and fearless behind the scenes to speak up to make things better. Ruth took time to make integrity shine. Her thoughtful notes, carefully wrapped parcels and family gatherings at the lake are legendary. She had a sense of design which turned every place she lived into a spot of beauty and joy. Not afraid of new adventures, at the age of 80, Ruth moved to Vancouver, where she had much fun with her dear cousin Mary and great -nephew Jake. Celebrating her life are nieces Anne (Louis) Palmour-Gratton, Katherine (Ray) Palmour-Daffurn, great-nephews Jess, Jake and Theo, great-niece Pip, and great-great-nephew Merick. At her request, there was no service. To honour her life and reverence for the natural world, please recycle diligently. www.hollyburnfunerals.com
