Date of Passing: Nov 28, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH JEAN STREILEIN (nee HOLTZ) It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt on Monday, November 28, 2016, at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 89 years. Left to cherish Ruth's memory are her son Jeff (Darris); daughters, Peggy (Cliff) and Caroline (Darryl); grandchildren, Tammy (Dave) and Katlyn; great-grandsons, Addison and Bennett; siblings, Lillian, Jeanette, Diane and Billie. She is predeceased by husband George; sisters, Mabel and Elsie; and parents Alma and August. Ruth was born in 1927 in the RM of Stanley, Manitoba, the second of seven surviving children. Her family eventually moved to Winnipeg's North End where, in 1946, she married George Streilein. Together they had three children. She was a homemaker for many years, returning to paid work when her children were grown, first at Clifford's in Garden City Shopping Centre and then at St. Joseph's Residence. Ruth was extremely hard working, self-effacing and non-materialistic. She was happiest working outside, tending her large yard and garden, in all seasons. On Thursday, December 1, 2016, a private Graveside Service was held with an interment at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave.

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to all of Ruth's family. Ruth was definitely an outdoor person and was forever seen outside tending her large, lovely, manicured yard. We would often chat about everything under the sun, just enjoying each others company. Although I moved from next door about ten years ago and, due to circumstances on both sides, we lost personal contact I often thought about her. I truly valued Ruth's friendship and her caring nature. May she rest in peace and God Bless. - Posted by: Pat Murdock (former neighbor) on: Dec 03, 2016
