DAVID MICHAEL JOHNSTON April 14, 1964 - December 2, 2016 It is with peaceful hearts we announce the passing of David Michael Johnston, on December 2 at roughly 1:30 a.m., in the loving arms of his wife, surrounded by family. The world lost a son, husband, father, brother, uncle and a very good friend. Dave leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 27 years, Grace and son Cody (Lisa) and daughter Casey. Also cherishing his memory are, his father William Johnston; stepmother Lucille Johnston; siblings, Melonie Bourdeau, Lilla Braun (Rob), Bill Johnston, Jessica Pattyn (Eric), Trevor Johnston; mother-in-law Christine Luzny; brother- in-law John Luzny (Darcie) and many nieces, nephews and friends that he loved very much. Dave was predeceased by his mother Jean Johnston, sister Tina Wilson, stepmother Patricia Johnston and father-in-law Jim Luzny. Dave may certainly have been rough around the edges and definitely a straight to the point, stubborn guy, but he loved with all his heart; there was no question about that. His part in people's lives, show in many ways, with so many memories and stories to share and keep in all of our hearts forever. I would say that he was a perfectly imperfect person. He did not want his 18 month battle with cancer to define him. With every breakdown filled with sadness and tears, please follow them with memories talked about or comments made that lead to smiles and laughter, which is what his wish for us was. We would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital 8A and palliative care Manitoba for their amazing care and compassion. To all our friends and family, for your prayers, thoughts and support, thank you is not enough. Celebration of Dave's life will be at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg, MB on December 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at Holy Ghost Fraternal Aid, 1230 Main St., Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba in Dave's name would be appreciated. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

I am truly sorry Grace, for you, your family and friends. I can only wish you the comfort of warm memories at this time. I will always remember the fun of his witty banter and the way he told it like it was and fun with good people. So sorry that he was taken from you so soon; once more calling on the strength of spirit you have always shown. Thinking of you. - Posted by: Darcie Mattick (Friend) on: Dec 12, 2016

After knowing Dave and Grace for over 25 years, I learned that one does not lose the friendship made even if the closeness diminishes. I will always remember how Dave stepped up to help me coach my sons baseball team in1994 when I needed a man to help me connect with the young boys. We all spent many years doing coffee together and always enjoyed each others company. People like Dave imbed themselves in your heart and although his body has left us, he will always be with us. We will miss Dave but we will never forget him. Grace, Cody and Casey, my condolences. You will always be in my thoughts. Laugh at the good times you had together, talk about him often and with everyone. Grieve anyway you must. Dave would want you to go on with life. - Posted by: Sherri Brazer (Friend) on: Dec 09, 2016

I didn't have the opportunity to meet Dave, to talk with him, but I know that he was a good man. I know this because of Grace. The aura of a good person is reflected in the people he surrounds himself with: Grace. In this time of grief, surround yourselves with memories, and the gift of the life you shared and feel the warmth of his heart around you. Big hug. - Posted by: Elizabeth Bonnett (friend) on: Dec 08, 2016
