EDWARD HOWARD GEORGE BAILEY
Date of Passing: Dec 01, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD HOWARD GEORGE BAILEY It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Ed Bailey. Ed passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the Portage General Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife Gwen, sons Darryl and Brent (Yvonne), and granddaughter Laura Unger (Jordan). Born in Meadow Lea, Manitoba to Tom and Beatrice Bailey, Ed helped to run the family farm, later moving to Portage la Prairie to manage the construction firm of Forsythe Coal Company. After Forsythe's, he, along with two partners, developed and built the Westward Village Inn and Shopping Mall (now Canad Inns) at the west end of Portage la Prairie. At an early age, Ed was fascinated by machinery, loving to operate large equipment of all kinds. He enjoyed flying, owned his own plane and for a time, worked as a bush pilot in Northern Manitoba. Years later he had the opportunity to fly helicopters in the Canadian Rockies. Above all, providing for his family was most important to him, as well as helping friends in need. He could often be found having coffee with his work mates or out for a ride in one of the many half-ton trucks that he owned over the years. We would like to thank the staff at the ETU wing of the Portage General Hospital for their help and care over the last nine months. If friends so desire, memorial donations to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. East, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8 or a charity of choice. A family interment will be held at a later date. Condolences may be left at our website www.ronaldmoffitmemorialservices.com/ obituaries Arrangements entrusted to Ronald Moffit Memorial Services.

Hello Gwen & family... Sending heartfelt condolences, very belatedly, on behalf of myself and my brothers. I was talking to Jean Dayton today and she thought I knew of Ed's passing but just found out now. The Dayton's are in the very early stages of planning a Bailey/Dayton/Kelly family weekend this coming summer. If you can email me, I could keep you posted. I have many happy memories of Meadow Lea...the hall, the church where Mom & Dad were married and now the lovely old cemetery where they rest and the farm with the little house and the big house. As a little girl I remember thinking that you and Eddy where a beautiful/handsome couple. Sorry I never got to know your boys very well. I guess I knew Auntie Ethel and the kids best but lost touch with them along the way too. So all the best to you (I see you are a grandma - me too) and I wish you a good 2017. My sincere condolences to you, Gwen and all your family. Life is full of changes as we know. Keep the memories. Many happy memories of school days in Reaburn and living just a 1/2 mile away from the Gunn's while growing up. My best to you all, Verna (Craig) Johnston - Posted by: Verna Johnston (Attended Reaburn School with Gwen) on: Dec 09, 2016
