LOTHAR (BILL) SCHWARZ Lothar (Bill) Schwarz passed away peacefully on December 11, 2016 at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving wife Eleanor and his children. Lothar is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Eleanor; his children, Carl (Lois), Carolyn (John), Lynn (Rob), Richard (Jodi) and Stephen; grandchildren, Matthew (Anna and great-grandchild Nora), Marianne, David (Selena), Alana, Bryanne (Dragan and great- grandchild Mila), Samantha (Mitchell) and Meghan; brother Dietmar (Hedda) in Germany; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters, Hortense and Gisela. Lothar was born on August 4, 1931 in Berlin, Germany. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 for a better life and married Eleanor in 1955. He worked for Winnipeg Transit as a Transit Operator for 36 years and retired in 1992 with an exemplary driving record. Lothar loved to garden and landscape, and many remember the bountiful harvest of fruits and vegetables each fall. He took great satisfaction in building the family home in St. Andrews with the help of his children. There are many trees on the property dedicated to the memory of his children and grand-children. In later years, an Apple computer became his new challenge and he spent many hours learning how to navigate and wrestling with the computer and the internet. His favourite key was the "Delete" key! He loved music, with thousands of tunes on his iPod, of which many were of the "oom-pah-pah" variety. He was a longtime faithful member of St. Anthony's Parish and the St. Joseph's Catholic Men's Sick Benefit Club. He enjoyed spending time at the Leisure Club at St. Anthony's and the Seven Oaks Wellness Center. Bowling at St. Joseph's and at Chateau Lanes gave him much pleasure. During his retirement, he and Eleanor enjoyed travelling to many places in Canada and around the world. His love for reading, the value of integrity and honesty, and the joy in a job well done infected his children. He was a man of few words, but was always willing to give you many words of wisdom when discussing topics over and after dinner. Lothar loved his children and grand-children very much and took great pride in their accomplishments. He was extremely happy to welcome the great-grandchildren. His life's work was expressing his love for his beloved family. A memorial mass to celebrate Lothar's life will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 250 Burrin Avenue on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. Ruhe in Frieden
