SHIRLEY PETERSON Shirley Myrtle Marie Peterson (nee Irwin), born in Transcona, MB April 6, 1931, died peacefully in Thunder Bay, ON, December 11, 2016. She is predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Jeanne Irwin of Teulon, MB; husband of 48 years Andrew Peterson of Guelph, ON; son Randy Peterson of Squamish, BC and her three sisters Elaine Slobodianek, Roxanne Cheyne and Adele Bond of Teulon, MB. Shirley's lifetime accolades include school teacher in a one room school house in rural Manitoba, a fabric shop owner, Imperial Tobacco factory tour-guide, substitute teacher in Guelph, University of Guelph athletic coach, and U of G Director of Women's Athletics. Adding to this she was also a loving wife, dedicated mother and extra special nana. Shirley will be remembered for her strong faith, dedication to the church and a assionate work ethic. We as a family feel fortunate to have had a mother who was a wonderful lady, a leader, a trailblazer and pioneer to what she believed in. Shirley is survived by her daughter Beverley (Mark) Peterson-Bruzzese of Thunder Bay, ON; sons, Murray (Janie) Peterson of North Bay, ON, Greg (Heather) Peterson of Fairmont Hot Springs, BC, Jeff (Lynn) Peterson of Port Moody, BC, daughter-in-law Maria Peterson of Squamish, BC; brother Clarence (Heida) Koch of Winnipeg, MB. Shirley cherished all nine of her grandchildren, Andrew, Chelsey, Heath, Julia, Samantha, Johann, Jared, Brianna and Liam. She is also survived by many close relatives and loving friends. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Shirley's wonderful life at 6:30 p.m., Saturday January 21, 2017 at Dublin Street United Church, 68 Suffolk Street, Guelph, ON. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent in her name to the University of Guelph: Shirley Peterson Memorial Fund @http://uofg.convio.net/peterson, Dublin Street United Church or Teulon United Church, Teulon, MB.
