JOHN (JACK) CARDNO July 23, 1933 - December 18, 2016 After a lengthy illness, Jack left this world to carry on his journey in the next phase of "life". Jack was predeceased by his wife Doreen and is survived by his children Scott (Liz) and Christine (Bruce) Young; and treasured grandchildren Jenny (Craig), Alex (Alicia) and Zac (Brittney). Jack's enthusiasm, sense of humour and zest for life is what he will be remembered for the most. Jack proudly worked at Manitoba Hydro for over 40 years where he had many fond memories with good friends and co-workers. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Blackhawks, Jets, Bombers and Cardinals. Jack played football, hockey and baseball mainly with Hydro teams. He also coached hockey and became the number one fan of his grandchildren's sports. Jack and Doreen's favourite place in the world was the "Granny Cabin" at Grand Beach where Jack spent many retirement hours mowing the lawn, building campfires, and relaxing on the deck with a book and a beer. A private celebration of life will take place in Grand Marais in the summer of 2017. The family would like to thank the staff at the Tache Nursing Centre for the excellent care they provided to Jack. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I just saw the notice of Jack's passing in the hydrogram. I have fond memories of Jack as a very capable individual in our department. If a record was requested by someone, with very little description, you gave it to Jack. He either knew where it was or would search for hours and sometimes days until he found it. It was an obsession with him. His humor and story telling along with teasing Dorothy were a source of entertainment to the rest of the staff. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. He was a great guy - Posted by: Jim Spokes (Co-worker/Supervisor, Manitoba Hydro Records Management) on: Jan 22, 2017

  • Scott, Christine and families... Just saw this. So sorry to hear about Uncle Jack. He was always one of my favorite people. Thinking of you... Love, Deb and Jason - Posted by: Deborah Banks (Niece) on: Jan 08, 2017

  • Jack had a wonderful sense of humor and made his children's friends feel like part of the family. We have fond memories of our conversations about hockey and sharing a laugh over his jokes and running while cutting grass out at the cabin. Our sincerest condolences to everyone in the family. - Posted by: Shirley & Ron ( Friends) on: Dec 22, 2016

  • Scott - so sorry to hear of your loss. Though I did not know your father, I do know the son he raised and if you are anything like him, he was a heck of a man. You, Liz and your family will be in our thoughts. - Posted by: Randy Luke (friend) on: Dec 22, 2016
