Date of Passing: Dec 20, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. V. MARIE STORRIE This obituary is being submitted, as a tribute to, and in celebration of, the life of Dr. V. Marie Storrie, who passed away on December 20, 2016, at the Grace General Hospital, while in the arms of the man who loved her, and into the arms of the one who always loved her, her saviour, Jesus Christ. Marie will be deeply missed by her partner in life, for the last 22 years, Craig Simmie, and her life long friend Dr. Donna Freisen, both of Winnipeg. She had a special soft place in her heart for her nephew Bruce. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Louise Storrie of Oakville, Ontario, her nephew Glenn and his family of Toronto, and her nephew Bruce Storrie of Ottawa. She is also survived by her special friends, Bob and Kathy Angst of Winnipeg, and Helen Gilmore of Neepawa, and her more recent friend, Jennifer Buhler of Kelwood. Marie graduated from the University of Manitoba School of Medicine and specialised in Internal Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. She practiced through the Manitoba Clinic, and did research in Cardiology with the late Dr. Bob Beamish. Marie's medical degree allowed her to practise medicine, and provided her the opportunity to love her patients as much as she loved medicine. Marie did house calls on her own time throughout a large portion of her career, out of dedication and love for her patients, whom she also considered her friends. Marie also provided Palliative Care in her own home for her mother, Frieda, during Frieda's last year. Marie went to high school in Kelwood, Manitoba, in the Riding Mountain district, and considered Kelwood and The Mountain, her "home", and that those were her people. She loved to be up at the family property on the side of the mountain, three miles out of Kelwood. Marie loved nature, animals and being out in the country. She loved going for drives, often out to Oak Hammock, and out for a bite to eat, especially the Garwood Grill and Perkins, and the White Rabbit restaurant in Kelwood. She also enjoyed going to the meeting place, the Kelwood Legion, to see who would drop by. She enjoyed travel and has toured the Mediterranean countries and South America, and had been to Scandinavia, England and France. Marie had a laugh, giggle and gentle smile that would light up one's heart. She openly accepted Christ as her saviour in 2011 as Jesus had, obviously, existed in her heart for many, many years. My thanks to the pastor from Church of the Rock. Marie never said an angry nor negative word to, or about, anybody, ever. She had a soft, peace filled, and gentle heart. It was Marie's wish that her ashes be buried at the foot of her parents grave in Kelwood, Manitoba and save for personal prayers for her, no service. Marie's cause of death was COPD, and donations in Marie's memory to the Manitoba Lung Association and the Canadian Wildlife Federation would be appropriate and appreciated.

I remember Dr. Storrie walking past our farm on her way into town and then back up to her home in the mountain. I was quite young at the time, but I could easily discern the respect in my parents' voices when they talked about her or greeted her. What a homecoming awaits us in Jesus' presence! - Posted by: Terri ( Cook) Mitchler (Former Kelwood neighbor ) on: Dec 23, 2016
