RONALD ARTHUR CARTWRIGHT Ronald Arthur Cartwright, 71, of Winnipeg Manitoba, passed on quietly on December 22, 2016 at Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre. Born on January 28, 1945 in Winnipeg, he was the first born son of the late James Gordon and Meryl (Boardman) Cartwright. Ron had a long and distinguished career with the City of Winnipeg Police force, from which he retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1997 after 30 years of service to the people of Winnipeg. He started his service as a Patrol Constable with the City of Transcona in 1967 and took on numerous roles throughout his career including Canine Unit and Vice Division. Following his retirement from the force, he continued his service to the people of the province by taking on a role with Provincial security services at the Legislature. He was an avid outdoors man who loved fishing and hunting. Over the past few years he had become a very active and involved member of the Firing Line Gun Club which, through the help of other dedicated members (Steve, Tom, Gary), brought him great enjoyment and helped him remain active despite his mobility challenges. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn (Fluker); children, Ronald 'Craig' (Robin) of Antigonish, Nova Scotia; Kristy (Mike) of Winnipeg; sister Elna (Don) Creedon of Winnipeg; brother Glen (Carolyn) of Dundurn, Saskatchewan; grandchildren, Tye, Kaylee, Jennie, Kale, Erin and Ella. He will be dearly missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30 at 11:30 a.m. at Crosspoint Community Church, 554 Marsden St. with Pastor Shane Brothers officiating. Luncheon to follow. Cremation has taken place. Ron took great joy in visiting with the many foster puppies his daughter would bring over from time to time for puppy snuggles. Memorial donations may be made to Caare Rescue online at Caarerescue.com (mention Ron's name in the comments) or any animal rescue of your choice. Online condolences: www.wheelerfuneralhome.com

  • There are heroes who walk among us Never looking for glory or praise They don’t seek recognition For their thoughtful, caring ways. Living lives of deep commitment Providing for those they hold dear Steadfast with a quiet strength Through times of laughter and tears. You are a person like that to me The most selfless man by far So Ron. I’d like to thank you For being the Hero you are. I’ll miss you, my friend. • I first met Ron when I sold my German Shepherd Dog to the Police Dept in 1977. We met again when he called me to let me know that the K-9 unit was doing an Expo at Polo Park mall. By this time Adronis, now called Rex, was a police officer. Our paths crossed from time to time, and I'll always remember Ron's kind nature. Many years later I got in touch with Ron to ask his permission to use a photo of him and Rex, when I walked into his home, his kind nature was abundantly strong even in a wheelchair. Ron. you my be gone but never forgotten.. every time I look at that photo I'll remember your "kind nature".. Cliff Bebber - Posted by: Cliff Bebber (Acquaintance) on: Dec 29, 2016
