MICHAEL RICHARD BARRETT June 19, 1986 - December 27, 2016 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Michael Barrett. Left to mourn are his children and the joys of his life, Tennesse and Milani, his loving parents Wain and Leona Barrett (Lemire), sisters Laura (Jeff) and Michelle (Jeremie), brother Christopher, nieces Abigail and Amelia, nephews Dalin and Benjamin, and numerous extended family members and friends. Michael will always be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, generous nature, and genuine and abiding love for his family and friends. He was always ready with a helping hand, a kind word, and his infectious grin, no matter the situation. Always a child at heart, Michael took such joy in the children in his life. His own children were his greatest accomplishment and a beautiful source of light and joy for him. A lifelong sports-enthusiast, youth sports always held a special place in his heart. As a child and throughout his youth, Michael was always his best and happiest self at either the hockey rink, on the football field or at the baseball diamond, and the values and lessons he took from his coaches, teammates and teams influenced him throughout the rest of his life. As an adult, he spent hours teaching his nieces and nephews to skate, and cheering (and coaching) from the stands at their endless hockey, baseball and football games, and looked forward to being able to do the same for his own children someday. Most recently, he found happiness in spending his weekends coaching his nephew's hockey team. Michael will be greatly missed by all who have been touched by his light, and we may now find solace in the knowledge that he has finally found the peace that has eluded him for so long. A memorial service will scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been established for Tennesse and Milani (The Barrett Children Trust Fund) at Assiniboine Credit Union, the proceeds from which will be directed to their education. Michael was always such a sweet and polite young man whenever i saw him as a young adolescent and teenager when he was in my home just hanging out with Alex and some of the guys. • Dear Barrett Family I do not have the words to express my sorrow for the pain you are suffering. Michael was a lively, fun loving young man. He was well liked amongst his peers. I was his cooking teacher for a brief time and I remember he liked cooking because of the cookies and muffins we baked regularly. When you are ready, I would be honored to make a memory quilt of his t-shirts and jerseys, he has collected over the years for his children. Let me know when and we will design them together. Time will heal your pain but the happy memories live forever. - Posted by: Deb Chouinard (Teacher) on: Dec 31, 2016
