BRUCE DOUGLAS DEARLOVE May 27, 1950 - December 29, 2016 With sadness the family announces the passing of Bruce at Riverview Health Centre on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the age of 66 years. Bruce will be loved and missed by his wife Irene; daughter Brandi (Darren) Cook and their children, Anna, John, William, Grace, Carissa and Obed; son Justin (Liesa) and their children Venice and Destiny. He is also survived by his brother Wayne (Susan); niece Jennifer (Ken) Miller; nephew Sean (Jillian) and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Irene. Bruce taught in the St. James Assiniboia School Division and for most of his career, he was a Physical Education teacher. Bruce was an advocate for healthy living and took his classes on many field trips, most notable was the annual trip to Big Whiteshell Lake, Manitoba. He was a dedicated and loving father who raised his kids the best he could, promoting physical education, health and educational excellence in its highest. Bruce coached many of his kids' hockey and ringette teams and loved to travel with his family. From Alaska to Florida, there were very few places he didn't take them. Bruce's happy place was the cabin at the lake. Here he enjoyed fishing, boating and in the fall, hunting. He was an exceptional handyman, he built the cottage at the lake and always had a project underway. After retirement, Bruce and Irene split their time between projects at the lake and enjoying the winter months in Texas. In compliance with Bruce's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. A small family memorial will be held at later date. A special thank you to Dr. Harris and the staff at CancerCare at the Grace Hospital and to Dr. Frame. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice. Mr Dearlove was my number 1 customer at Shoppers Drug Mart Polo Park. We always talked about the good old days. One conversation I'll never forget is I told him my parents never bought school pictures of me or any classroom pictures because they didn't read or speak English. He told me he had pictures of all his classes. I had Mr Dearlove for grade 3 and 4. Well, the next day he came and brought me my classroom pic and gave it to me to keep. He introduced me to his wife and I saw them a lot. I will always treasure the photo. Great teacher. - Posted by: Lucia DiBernardo (Student at Buchanan School) on: Jan 30, 2017

We met Bruce and Irene about 6 or 7 years and have stayed friends. He was one of the nicest guys we have ever known. He will truly be missed by all the people whose life he touched. Our prayers go out to his family at this sad time. Sherry and Ed Kaspar - Posted by: Sherry and Ed Kaspar (Friends from Ranchero Village in Weslaco Texas) on: Jan 09, 2017

Bruce Dearlove taught phys-ed to our kids at Athlone School. He cared about his students and helped them appreciate nature and the outdoors. We fondly remember "parent and child nights" at Athlone where he taught us all to line-dance. To this day, at every wedding dance or social, we smile and think of Mr Dearlove. Thank you for blessing our children with so many rich experiences. Our sincere condolences to Irene, and to the rest of his family. - Posted by: Cathy Hummelt (Parent of students (Mark, Erika, Jocelyn)) on: Jan 09, 2017

Dear Irene and family. My sincerest sympathy to you all. I know what you are going through because I've been there myself. I have the most wonderful memories of Bruce, Big Whiteshell Lake and our teen years. I first met Bruce when he was our paperboy when we were 14 years old. I will cherish memories of those days so long ago. - Posted by: Adele (Hawkins) Deegan (Old Friend) on: Jan 07, 2017

Dear Irene, Brandi, Justin, Wayne and families, There are no words to describe the loss we feel with the passing of our dear friend Bruce. Bruce was always right there when anyone needed an extra hand. Moe enjoyed working with Bruce on the cabin. Bruce, until we meet again. I remember Bruce as a great Phys Ed teacher to our 2 daughters. He had a zest for life and shared that with the kids. Such a positive influence and role model in so many ways. He will be missed. Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Nancy Lautermilch (Parent of 2 of his students) on: Jan 07, 2017

Mr Dearlove was my elementary school gym teacher at Athlone. Him teaching our class how to line dance was my favorite memory, also having Mrs Dearlove (Schmidt) as my kindergarten teacher. I'll never forget it was Lip Sync and Ms Schmidt and Mr Dearlove did a duet, they were the hit of the Lip Sync at Athlone. My condolences from the Kaminsky family to the Dearlove family. - Posted by: Kimberly Kaminsky (student) on: Jan 07, 2017
