ROMEO DAVID BEAUCHEMIN June 5, 1929 - December 30, 2016 Roméo passed away peacefully on the evening of December 30, 2016, surrounded by his family. He will be greatly missed by many. Roméo was predeceased by his parents, Beatrice and Joseph, his siblings Lucille, Lionel (Adrienne), Denis, and Denise in infancy. He is survived by his wife Jeane, of 57 years, his five children, his 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Marlise (Marc), Justin (Erin), David and Kristen; Paul (Dori), John-Paul, Janelle (Frank and Elouise) Jennifer and Jeremy; Michele (Les), Lindsey (Mike, Jax and Nixon), Nikki (Brett); Elaine, Hannah, Alex and Zach; Dennis (Lisa), Brett and Troy. He is also survived by his siblings; Simone Roy (late Jean-Baptiste) and Dolorès Laurendeau (late Louis), brothers-in-law; Oswald Carrière, Ed Duchek (late Moira) and Frank Duchek (Adelina), and sister-in-law Jeanine Beauchemin, as well as many nieces and nephews who he loved very much. Dad was born and raised in Ile-des-Chênes, MB where he also raised his family. His love of farming was seconded only by his love of trucking. While he loved his home, he also enjoyed travelling and meeting people. Dad was an eternal optimist, making the best of situations which were not always ideal. He saw the best in people and greeted all those he met with a smile and authentic conversation. Dad loved and cared about who people were as a person and did not judge someone by any measurable standards. He actively volunteered and worked to make his community a better place. All those who worked alongside Dad could attest to the way that he lived, as a fun loving and generous person who made people that he met feel good. Dad took pride in his Métis heritage and often regaled us with stories of his childhood. He took the time to explain how his experiences shaped his values which passed on important life lessons to his children. Dad was a natural teacher, taking advantage of every opportunity to mentor community youth. His many weekend projects on the farm were proof of his leadership qualities. Groups of skilled and non-skilled labourers (normally the kids from the village), assembled and completed jobs that had to be done. Payment almost always took the form of plentiful and tasty food, good company and stories, and above all, laughter. Many great memories were made and we learned a lot. In keeping with Dad's wishes, you are all welcome to join us for a memorial mass and celebration of Dad's life in the Notre-Dame-de-la-Miséricorde Church, 453 Main Street, Ile-des-Chênes, MB on Friday, January 6, 2017, with eulogy and video tribute commencing at 10:30 a.m., followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southeast Personal Care Home, 1265 Lee Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2M3, or to a charity of one's choice. We are eternally grateful for the love, care, and support shown for our dad by the many health care professionals at the Southeast Personal Care Home where Dad spent the last six months of his life. Dr. Karvelas' gentle and respectful guidance was instrumental in providing Dad hope and good care through the very difficult period of his illness. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of his friends who came to the home, called and prayed for him; for that we are deeply appreciative. Most of all, we remain grateful for having had a Dad who, through his actions, showed us how to live a life filled with love. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. • My wife and I met Romeo in 1975 when we moved to Ile des Chenes. I met him at a minor hockey meeting.i had a few questions to ask at the meeting and he promptly appointed me to run the youth team 6- 8 year olds. He next gave me the job of looking after the ice rentals at the local rink.so I could schedule ice for my team. we became close friends with romeo. He also gave me the job of picking up Kub bread when I was coming home from work in Winnipeg. He was a great friend and my wife and I loved running into him after we left Ile des Chenes. Romeo was a special person and always had a story to tell and some good advice to share. we will always remember him and may god bless him. r.i.p. old friend. • Sending our sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to you, Michele & Les as well as your entire family. It was our pleasure to have met your father who truly was a "breath of fresh air". It is people like Romeo who leave an everlasting memory in our heart. His love of his wife, children and grandchildren also was truly evident as I recall walking into Michele's home. There at the end of her dining room table was Romeo playing a game of crib with Nikki and Brett and it was a sight that I will never forget. How lovely to see such love between a grandfather and grandchildren. The world was blessed to have had a "Romeo" in it because his positive and caring outlook on life.
