MARK R. YOUNG, M.D FRCP (C) Neurology It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of Mark on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the age of 75, with his wife Gail by his side. Mark was born in Winnipeg, where he attended elementary and senior high school. He obtained his Bachelor of Science and M.D. at the University of Manitoba. His neurology training was at the University of Toronto, where he obtained his FRCP (C) Neurology in 1974. Prior to starting his neurology practice in 1974, he was honoured to receive an invitation to join the 1974 hockey summit series in Russia, as an assistant team physician for Team Canada. At a young age Mark enjoyed, and actively participated in many sports; golf, hockey, lacrosse, squash and football. He always enjoyed the sociability among friends. In recent years due to health issues, he concentrated on becoming as physically fit as possible. Some of his fondest memories with his children are of the times spent together at Lake of the Woods swimming, fishing and boating. Mark is survived by his loving wife and most precious friend Gail; daughter Debbie (Bruce); granddaughter Katie; daughter Jodi (Doug); sons David and Geoff; sister Leslie Kepron (Wayne); niece Laurie Kepron; nephews Scott and Craig Kepron; special nephew Paul Beaudet and niece Marlo Kinnear. Gail would like to thank the doctors and nurses (Grace ICU) for their excellent care and compassion given to Mark during his hospital stay. A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Friday, January 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with reception to follow. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • He was so nice to me and I remember buying him golf balls and he said we are not allowed gifts from patient but I'll accept this and we both laughed. God bless him and family. - Posted by: Don (Patient) on: Jan 10, 2021

  • I worked for Dr. Young and Gail many years ago. Dr. Young was a kind, genuine, compassionate and humble man. I had the utmost respect for him. He would never hesitate to get a second opinion for his patients. He cared that much. He was a very special person and I was blessed to know him. He will always be remembered; never forgotten. Rest in Peace Dr. Young. - Posted by: Debbie Burgess (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2017

  • Condolences to Gail and family. I first came to know Mark when I experienced his awesome talents as a hockey player when we both played for the U of M Medical Team. Again crossed paths in Toronto on the ice except on opposite sides! He was playing on a TO General team and I was on an Orthopaedic team. We shared consults back in Wpg on a number of patients and Mark was always an astute diagnostician. It was an honor to have known, played and worked with him. He made a difference in several fields of endeavor. - Posted by: Merv Letts (Colleague) on: Jan 07, 2017

  • My Father was fortunate to have Dr Young as his neurologist. Dr Young was so kind and patient with my Dad and myself, with all the questions we had. - Posted by: Lucy (Patient) on: Jan 07, 2017
