SYDNEY WOLFROM
Born: Nov 18, 1950
Date of Passing: Dec 14, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYDNEY WOLFROM (nee HARRIS) November 18, 1950 - December 14, 2016 Peacefully, after a long illness, Sydney Christine Wolfrom passed away at Deer Lodge, surrounded by family. Sydney was born in Winnipeg, the middle of three daughters born to Les and Bonnie Harris.
She was a happy little girl who loved playing house and paper dolls with her sisters, and especially enjoyed family camping vacations. Sydney married Dan in 1972 and together they raised three sons. Sydney inherited her dad's love of travel, visiting destinations across the world, and has shared that love with her sons, who, in turn, have shared that love with their children. Along with her many camping excursions and marathon road trips across North America (and only one speeding ticket), Sydney looked for variety in her travels, and she found it, with one or more political coups while on holiday, and with her and Dan's four-week motorcycle expedition across Central Africa while in their late 40s.
Sydney always felt it was essential to give back in any way possible, and this was reflected not only in her generous spirit, but in her volunteer work, including hundreds of hours helping out at local schools and community centres, as well as her time serving as a member of her community Youth Justice Committee, working to further the cause of rehabilitation and restorative justice long before it was cool.
Sydney was overjoyed to become a grandmother, and she spent as much time as possible caring for and playing with her grandchildren. On more than one occasion, Sydney was discovered in her spare bedroom, preparing for a visit with her grandkids by "setting up" the several hundred square feet of dollhouses and dollhouse accessories she'd collected, enjoying the houses and dolls as much as she had when she was a young girl. Playfulness, warmth, humour and selflessness were important parts of who Sydney was, and will always be remembered and treasured by her family and friends.
Sydney is survived by Dan, sons Leigh (wife Tracey with Amber and Sarah), Josh (wife Val), his children Larissa and Jacob and their mother Rachael, Regan (wife Christine with Isla and Colin), and sisters Susan and Ruth, nephew James, niece Jennifer and their families. She is also survived by Dan's mother, Hedy, his brother Dave, sister-in-law Mardell and their family. She was predeceased by her parents, father-in-law Herb, and brother-in-law Don.
Thank you to the staff on Tower 6, Deer Lodge Centre, who have cared for Sydney these many years.
Sydney's wish was to be cremated and laid to rest with her parents, but she had also considered having her ashes scattered at one of the many fine Target stores within the greater Twin Cities area. Her family has chosen to honour one or more of those requests. A service of remembrance will be held at St Stephen's Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale Ave. at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017, with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.

Wow,this is not what I imagined when I tried to find you after so many years and hoping to reconnect again. We spent every day together as teens walking to Assiniboine Park and back sometimes twice a day and sometimes Polo Park. You always had that big comb with you trying to tame all your curls. We had a lot of fun together and then I got married and then you got married. I still remember your wedding and then I moved to Alberta. We stayed in touch by letter for a while and then we were down to Christmas cards once a year adding kids names as the years went by. When your cards stopped I just assumed you were busy and time went on. I am so sorry to find out you were not well. now that we became older I thought of you often and tried to reconnect, finally finding out you had passed. Thank goodness you had a good life I wish we had reconnected. I am sending prayers for your family I will continue to reminisce and wish everyone a good and healthy life. - Posted by: Beryl Kitchen (Best friend in high school) on: Sep 14, 2024

I have so many wonderful memories of times spent over the years with Sydney! She was a fun, loyal friend and always enjoyed any excuse for new adventure. You, her sons and grandchildren were so very important to her. As you'll be missing her very much in the years ahead, we pray that you will find comfort in knowing that she's with her loving Saviour... completely well and joyful! - Posted by: Ardys - for Doug and me (friends) on: Jan 09, 2017
