Born: Mar 14, 1951
Date of Passing: Jan 06, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRIS DESJARLAIS (nee BYRON) March 14, 1951 - January 6, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected, yet peaceful passing of Iris Desjarlais on January 6, 2017, at the age of 65. Beloved daughter of Kay (late Harry) Byron of Lundar, MB; husband to Bruce; siblings Orval (Rhonda), Owen and late brother Morris; her children Teresa (Herve), Adele (Scott), Ryan (Kristi), Brett (Julie), late son David (Vivian) and daughter-in-law Jenni; grandchildren Randi, Bowin, Molson, Simon, Cohen and Alexis; nieces Lisa, Mandy, Brandon, Amber, Tayllor and Kaley; nephews Shane, Frazer, Tyler and Jason; cherished friends Lois, Bonnie, Peggy, Donna, Val, Ethel, Svava, Janice, the "Christensen Girls" and Nicki; students dear to her heart Bella and Cohen. All will remember her with deep love and affection as a remarkable woman. Iris (Ici) was born in Eriksdale, MB where she embraced a childhood as an accomplished barrel racer, celebrating her talents and gentleness with her horse Tanny. Loving life on the farm, Iris thrived, loved and lived in her community. In 1972, she married Bruce, creating a nurturing home bursting with laughter and kindness, celebrating the blessings of their children. Iris moved to Winnipeg in 1994, continuing her role as a full time mother, she excelled as a treasured employee and genuine friend at Sears Polo Park and the Winnipeg Clinic. In 2010 the true calling of her generous heart brought her to Buchanan School as an Educational Assistant. Becoming a grandmother was the grandest gift bestowed to her. She was their "Biggest Hockey Fan", Head Cheerleader, Top Chef, and their preferred "Snuggler". She never missed a Christmas concert, birthday party or sporting event and each child knew that they were loved unconditionally. Mom hosted all of our family dinners, distinctively and thoroughly listing her groceries. Her guest list welcomed everyone to her home and table. Known as "Auntie Iris" or "Mom" by the friends of her children, she shared joy and embraced each for their personalities. She harvested a wisdom from her collection of recipes, specializing in roasted chicken and stuffing. She was a promoter of health and proud champion in the "Winners Circle" at the Race Track. Her strength, her integrity and her devotion to her family gave her children and grandchildren a strong start to their lives. Although she endured hardship, she persevered without complaint. She is simply the rock on which our lives have been based and her values have been passed down to us. A service honouring Iris will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Lundar Community Hall with Zach Dixon officiating. Service will conclude at the hall with a reception and lunch to follow in Lundar Legion Hall. Interment will be held at a later date. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the exemplary compassion shown by Dennis Vandekerckhove, Bethany Popoff, Stonewall Ambulance Service, STARS and The Stonewall R.C.M.P. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Iris to purchase educational resources at Buchanan School, 815 Buchanan Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R2Y 1N1. My dear friend Iris. A woman who I have been lucky enough to have known. A friend who always made me feel welcome and special. A woman who made a difference in my life. Someone who did not take the words "family or friend" lightly. I will miss our impromptu coffee meetings where we had great conversation and shared our love for our kids and grandkids. Our dinners where we could easily test out our new recipes and laugh about how we hoped it turns out, but if not it wouldn't matter in the least. Iris spoke often of her students and how much she enjoyed her days. Anyone who was lucky enough to have known her would tell you of her kindness and selflessness. To her children and family I cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. You were the light in her eyes always. My heart goes out to you all. I was shocked and saddened to hear about Iris. My memories of Iris are ones of young cousins getting together. One memory that sticks out is of the two of us riding horses and on the way back we decided to go full out. We were hollering and laughing and just having fun!! But when we got back our dads were not happy with us because they thought we could have been hurt. Although years and miles separated us I often thought about Iris. She has truly left a wonderful legacy and her mother, children and grandchildren can be proud! Our sincere sympathy to all. Marlene & Gerald - Posted by: Marlene (cousin) on: Jan 10, 2017
