EDMUND (EDDY) HICOSKI Peacefully, and surrounded by his family, Edmund (Eddy) Hicoski passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Remaining to cherish his memory is his wife of 64 years, Ann Hicoski; daughters, Shirley Stimpson (Ross) and Elizabeth Hicoski. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jaroslaw in 2014 and Tadeusz in 2015. Edmund was born in Mielnica, Poland on June 28, 1925. After the war, he served time in the American army. He immigrated to Winnipeg in 1948, settling in Winnipeg, where he met Ann, his future wife. Eddy's first job in Canada was working at the Banff Springs Hotel where he indulged his love of nature. Eddy and Ann were married in 1952 and settled in their home in West Kildonan where he lived until his passing. He worked in the family business, operating a number of restaurants and later went on to work as a sheet metal worker in the construction industry. Eddy and Ann were long-time members of Holy Ghost Church and the Holy Ghost Fraternal Aid Society, where they served on the executive council for many years. They treasure those years and the friendships it brought them. Eddy was generous and honest, and had an enthusiasm for life. He cherished simple joys, in particular, time at home and sharing his life with family and many friends. Eddy was a loyal and devoted husband to Ann and father to his daughters. He and Ann hosted many social occasions in their home for friends and family. Each year, he and Ann looked forward to the earliest moment that they could plant their garden in the yard, which they prized so much. Eddy nurtured a small vineyard and made wine each fall. Throughout life, Eddy continued his love of learning and particularly enjoyed current news events and reading history. Despite hardships early in his life, Eddy never looked back and viewed the future with optimism. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue followed by a burial at Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044
